Detailed Ship Description

  • Hey guys,

I've been playing the mod and after some time, when you think of improving your Stuff, you come across the question, which figher you should take.
As one of the major points of your mod is the introduction of a lot of new ships, i searched for a list and came across this one (http://www.crossfire.swat-portal.com/?page_id=41511). It is for Version 1.7, so first I'd like to know, if it is still up to date or if there were major changes made (and maybe there is a list for 1.9?). Secondly, it lacks detailed information about things like manoeuvrability or speed. I always wondered why such an important information like agility was hidden ingame, since i'd take a light fighter over a heavy one any day of the week. Years ago,i installed the tool FLDatastorm to find every single object in the game and i realized, it was able to show the agility of a ship (cannot remember the exact value, iirc turn-rate or similar). So i learned, that there was a heavy fighter with better agility than all others.
So I'd like to know, if there is such information about the new ships out there. I don't want to know the locations, so no spoiler alert, just the attributes. If there is not such a list, could you tell me the name of the best light fighter found in the vanilla universe (Sirius)? Precisely, i mean a light fighter with the abilty to mount lvl10 weapons for all the lovely guns to be found and the best manoeuvrability. Armor, Cargo, Number of weapons etc are irrelevant, just these two things count. The name is enough, so that i know i can stop searching when i run across it.

Oh yeah, and one other thing. I came across a place where i could buy an enhancement called "Weight reduction". I guess it enhances agility so i'd like to know if it would transform a light fighter in some sort of super light fighter.

    Thanks again for advice,

    Dude

  • old info, very old info
but unfortunatly i never really had the time to update it

however, i guess its best to take a look at:

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • This is to answer your question about weight reducers on a light fighter. Light fighters are already pretty fast and agile and for most of them, they are limited on cargo space [weight reducers take up part of your cargo hold]. The light fighter I use for my scout ship has a top running speed of 120 and a top thruster speed of 260. It turns on a dime and can out maneuver any and all VHF's...and that's with a full payload of weapons and upgrade equipment. The downside of a light fighter is weapons. Mine has a maximum weapon class of 6. There is one light fighter that can mount class 10 guns...but only 2 hard points on the entire ship for guns/missles.

A light fighter in the right hands is hard to catch and difficult to hit.

  • sry to correct you Rex,

but there are at least two light fighters with 3 class 10 hardpoints, but they are VERY light, esp on armour.
Unfortunatly they are also slow :-(

    Am I a man ? I am. So - I got married. House, wife, children,everything.
    The FUULL catastrophy !

    "MY MACHINE": Win 7 prof 64bit , i7 3770K , vtx HD7950 X-edition , 8 GB DDR3-2400 , Sandisk 256 ultra , 2TB Seagate, BenQ BL2710PT (2560x1440)

  • Ah, thanks Nuc. I did not know there were other LF's besides the Drizzt that use Class 10's...and more than 2 even. I'll have to check them out.

  • The one I think about is an already "old" one, the other I have in mind came with CF 1.8.

Just a small hint without spoilering here . ^^

  • Thanks for the Link to the lexikon!

So there are 4 light fighters with lvl10 weapons and 2 of them have 3 weapon slots.
Since the tiger's description mentions its reduced manoeuvring, i think hermes will be a better choice. Both have only 25 Cargo Space, so could i buy weight reducers or do they need more space?
Both can mount Torpedo Launchers, sounds crazy!

  • All of them haven't enough space for weight reducers, they are not really needed on them.
They all move like a "real" light fighter.

But keep in mind - LOW - for defence you have to rely on shields with them or better: KEEP MOVING !

Another drawback on them: they are SLOW, not faster than the rest of the bunch of VHF.

But they can be fun, IF you ... keep on moving ;-)) !
