Changing Sound

  • Hey guys,

i am a big freelancer fan since it has come out and i replay it from time to time.
Now i have seen your mod and gave it a chance. After some problems getting OpenSP to work, things seem to work and i have succesfully visited some bases in NY.
The mod looks great and i am excited to play.
However, there is one thing really disturbing me. Whenever you open or close a menu, there is a new sound and i would really love to get rid of it. Just after a couple of minutes i got annoyed and this is not the way to start a great mod like this.
Since i will not play online, just SinglePlayer, i do not have to take care of anticheatsoftware and so i hope it is possible to delete/change this very sound.
I hope you can help me so i can fully enjoy your great work.

P.S. Maybe it is important, so a quick info. I installed this mod with settings as close to the original as possible. So old menu, old trent etc.

    Thanks a lot,

    Dude

  • The opening closing menu sound isn't part of the Crossfire mod, is it? I'm pretty sure the Freelancer menus have always made that whooshing sound.

    *after some checking*
I just checked and the menu sound has been changed a bit. The original is just the "whoosh" sound and the Crossfire one is the same sound with some computer beeps added. Here is how to change it back:

Navigate to where Freelancer is installed on your harddisk: example

Rename ui_motion_swish.wav to ui_motion_swish.wav.xfire [this is the Crossfire menu sound]
Rename ui_motion_swish.wav.flmmbak to ui_motion_swish.wav [this is the original sound]

I just did this and it works.

  • i'm pretty sure, it's Crossfire specific. i remember feeling the same way as LancerDude at first. never looked into it and just got used to it after a while.

Characters: SA_WHISKY and all simlar (SA_something_WHISKY)

  • If you let the launcher update, it will reverse the changes so once you change it, try to avoid updating. [if you're only interested in single-player]

Added: to avoid this, change the property of the files back to "Read Only"

  • Just wanted to report back, that the launcher did not change this back after updating, even without setting the file's property to "read only". I successfully played MP yesterday with the old soundfile. And i have to confess, it feels like heaven compared to the new one :).
Thanks again for the quick and proficient responses.
