Interesting Effect on Windows 8 Release Version.
I have tried to re-install the game
and also re-installed the fonts from the CD, no change.
I am searching for a solution and will report as soon as I find one.

probably fonts are registered in a different way for win8
moving them into the fonts directory does not work? -
No.
I have also tried compatibility settings- No luck
What bothers me is that even reading from the disk is not working and that leads me to think it is deeper than just fonts , there may be an API reason why this is not working.
I will report as soon as I know something.

The NVIDEA drivers that is installed with the Release of Windows 8 is not right.
After downloading the latest released version from NVIDEA website, Freelancer is happy again ... and so am I.

Yes CF and W8 is right...
The NVIDEA drivers released with W8 is the problem.
