Crossfire 1.9 crashes when clicking inventory

  • Hi all,

I downloaded CF 1.9 today and installed it twice now with the same problem. At the second install I turned adv. shaders off.

I did everything said in the install instructions, just as I did with previous CF version ( they worked flawelesly btw)
When I start a new Open SP game then the game does launch but ( i don't know if this is supposed to be) I start out in a complete empty freeport 7 sector,
    no gates, lanes, planets etc.
The game tells me to dock at a planet (I forgot the name) but there are no planets or gates.....

The other problem is more serious maybe because when I click inventory the window pops up and the game crashes, it doesn't matter if I click the icon or press F7.
The game crashes back to desktop.

I would realy appreciate some help because I love the CF mods and I can't wait to play 1.9 :)

    Cheers

  • Before the second install I did download it for the second time because I accidentaly deleted the first download.
One thig comes to mind though, do I have to install the mod manager in c:\programm files or can I just as well install it on an other partition ?

it should run everywhere as long as you install it there so the registry entries are correct.

  • Then it won't matter I guess, the install goes allright no messages or errors during install.
I'm running XP 32bit btw and I lately installed a new graphicscard Geforce GTS 450 1gb.
Do I have to install any update to Freelancer prior to installing CF 1.9 or can I just use a clean install from the cd ?

I found a file called FLSpew.txt and the last 2 lines say :

    E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\LoginMgr.cpp(351) : NOTICE:General Starting single player game.
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\Gf\LocationController.cpp(1029) : *** WARNING: Failed to get start location

    maybe this helps

  • first line is unusual (have never seen it before)
    2nd line is normal

  • The mod manager is v1.31 I used it for CF 1.8 too
I installed CF 1.9 four times now and finaly a I got it running :)
Not as it should but it's running fine.
I tried the Open Single Player three times and before the third time I made sure there was no trace of any previous install.
I even did a search in regedit for Freelancer and Crossfire and deleted all entries.
Whenever I choose Open Single Player I end up in an empty Freeport 7 sector and as soon as I click inventory the game craches back to desktop.
Before the fourth time I installed CF 1.9 I made sure again that there are no traces left from the previous install and I choose Normal Single Player and it worked !!!!!
Everything seems fine now except that I have to do the original campaign (again).
I'll just make sure to backup a savegame when I have the campaign completed, just for the occasion I'll have to reinstall etc.

If one of you gurus come up with a sollution for the Open Single Player game then I would appreciate it a lot but I'm at a loss as to why the install goes haywire. I never ever had any problems with previous version of CF and I think it's save to say that I played all of them because CF is the only mod I use.
It's just amazing what you guys have done to Freelancer and to keep it up to par with much newer games.
Thank you so much for your effort and time so we (the players) can enjoy it as much as we do.
Keep up the good work !!

  • solution = rename the m13opensp.ini to m13.ini and overwrite the existing file
(that fixes the problem but is not reason for it)

  • If you don't mind I will try that on a later time.
I'm in the middle of the story again and rather like it :)
As I understand CF 1.9 goes further with the story then previous version ?
I would like to play the whole SP campaign again with CF's extension.

    BTW
Renaming that file wil also solve the "Inventory" problem ?

Thanks for your help it's much appreciated, I've been enjoying CF for a long time now and am thankfull for the support you give.

    Cheers

  • This is very similar to another thread and I'm wondering...where is the OpenSP supposed to start? Mine started in FP7 as well, but I didn't get a chance to play because I got a new computer and did a complete fresh install of everything [from the original download]. I really don't know if it was working or not. When I installed on the new machine, I chose regular SP. I've never actually played OpenSP. Is it possible there are a whole bunch of us with a corrupt install file and don't realize it? It seems quite strange that several people have a corrupt file and they are all corrupt at the same spot....OpenSP.

As I'm writing this, I thought of something....when I started OpenSP on the old computer [laptop], it was not connected to the internet. Therefore, it got none of the updates. Could that be the problem?

  • yeah, something i dont really understand
my open sp started on manhattan

  • I spent a very long time looking for a solution to this problem and never found the m13opensp file. My fix-it was a 'little' unorthodox. I find this worth posting here because this thread comes up in google searches relating the the freeport 7 system problem AND due to the inventory crash problem. This somehow fixes both. I downloaded chip's open SP, and simply installing it did nothing. I still spawned in FP7 and was a little upset, figuring that there was some workaround in progress. Either way, I went into the m13 folder and replaced the m13.ini file in the freelancer directory with the on in chips open SP directly. (I was really grasping at straws) Either way, it started me off on Planet Manhatten. I was trippin.

Edit: Alright. That caused a crash upon launch and then I found in the CROSSFIRE mod directory the nostorym13.ini . Will be trying it as soon as I get YET ANOTHER CLEAN INSTALL. :'(

  • Eh. I got it working from what I did it seems. I fell asleep. I can only assume the fix does a similar thing. Either way it works now and the point is that there were no obvious answers being provided by google so I wanted to try and get it fixed for others who would like to enjoy this mod. I normally do not post on forums but an exception was made.
