An idea to pass through that asteroid field in a short time (which is very unusual to meet aliens so fast, and even if you do, you'll get the enough distance to leave them off the radar) is this: place a waypoint to where you want to go or somewhere in it's direction(if you don't have it mapped), then cruise (F2 or normal, no matter) and keep turning a bit in any other direction arround the one you want. This way it's less frequent to hit an asteroid which pops up in front of you as you're already going arround it(if you keep turning/spinning arround the direction you want to go) , and even if when you hit some, you won't go backwards, you'll go more, laterally.
If you see some aliens, don't go the opposite direction of them, but again, somewhere arround that opposite direction.

Note: With "arround the direction" I mean you turn, manually, about 10-20º (degrees) arround that direction.

This movement is also part of a PvP movement about avoiding your opponent's guns.
