  • Just look at the specs of the upcoming Radeon card due for release in Q1 2012. The 7970 really looks like it will be great with a 1GHz processor and 8000 MHz ram speed and a bandwidth transfer rate of 256 GB/s. Look at the huge drop in power consumption. It is really looking good.

  • Yep, AMD's HD series cards are great buys and most of the time ahead of the pack with Nvidia's offerings as of late.

I'd love to drop one of these puppies in my system but sadly, my system is so ancient, it would make more sense to do a complete overhaul at this point.(much less I don't even have a PCI-E 2.0 slot on my motherboard, I do have a very nice 3850HD AGP though haha)

I'II need far more than a new graphics card, more like everything else as well will need to be replaced.

Nice system too by the way Maddox. I'm eyeballing your system specs pretty hard as I'd like to do it with a Phenom II X4 setup come early next year if Bulldozer hasn't been released for the desktop by then.

  • Thnx Orion. I had a real hard look at all the hardware and options before I built my system. I am not at all a fanboy that my system is all AMD it is just I go for price vs performance and AMD is the best in this department. Bulldozer should be out by the end of this month or so says AMD, so I am really interested to see the performance and pricing on the chips.

At the moment if you want max performance you go for Intel, but if you are budget orientated and want to go for price vs performance you go for AMD. The phenom II x 4 chips are a great buy, but I would suggest going for the 955 and just OC it a little.
