Hi just successfully got crossfire running after numerous failed attempts, everything was going fine but got to near the end of the 1st original storyline mission where you fly to the rogue base near pittsburgh and the game wont recognise that I have reached the final checkpoint, thus initiating the other friendly NPCs to come and torpedo the base etc, cant destroy the weapons platforms or anything, thus meaning im perpetually stuck on this mission, which sucks as I dont even care about the original story having played through it numerous times, I just want to explore the new systems and ships! please help I have no idea what i am doing and have wanted to play this mod for ages now

If, as you say, you don`t care about the SP storyline and just want to explore, then you should have chosen the ''Open SP'' option when activating CF... Or better yet - come online and play with new ppl who can help you explore the vast reaches of Crossfire space.

Your issue is very unusual, as this is the first repot of this kind I remember.
It should be related with not clearing your saves and profiles data folders from My Documents and Windows, registry ones at windows usually fixed by CCleaner(when there's a need of it).
So, try using CCleaner(freeware on the internet) and manually eliminate the "My Games" or the "Freelancer" folder inside My Games(if you have other games there), with no need to reinstall the mod. If it still gets stuck at that point, you may have to reinstall, and you can choose the Open SP option to avoid all the storyline.
Though on CF 1.9 there will be a massive storyline for SP, so don't miss it
And well, on Multiplayer you will get much more information for sure. As I think it's nearly impossible to explore teh CF universe(all of it) without knowing and reading the datadisks and black boxes in-game, or checking some maps and spoilers on the forum. There are system jumpgates/holes in places you'd never explore.

heh, thought Reboot was in all installs tutorials, and also obvious as you should reboot after any other new installed program, not only the Window related ones that force reboot or spamm you asking about reboot till you do it

haha like I said feeling pretty stupid! just took a look at a full system(s) map on the forum and I have gotta say I am blown away! Can't wait to get exploring properly
just need to crack through the storyline and get used to the new improved AI, always thought I wasn't bad at original freelancer, but this is a challenge to say the least! Realised i have gotta polish my skills considerably or I will get rinsed on the server for sure!!! -
I'm not sure if you seen the latest version's maps, which are increased compared to the normal Maps Swat portal has as default.
So unless it's saying 1.8 or 1.82 on it, be sure those maps are still missing a lot of stuff
"Altair sector" and "CF sector or something like this" maps are outdated.
