The mod of the year awards 08 are over now.
It very likely was the most "interesting" MOTY we took part...
the surprise sponsors -> US military
the hot discussions about the sponsor
the hot discussions about the voting methods
and also hot discussions about the winners and broken rules
Yes moddb has broken its own rules... by awarding a mod which got the same award last time without that there are noticable changes on that mod.
It shouldnt be a big surprise that no Freelancer mod was awarded since 90% of the winners are first person shooters. Other genres have no or only small chances to mess with them. The continious preferance of FPS games has lead to some kind of mistrust and boredom on moddb this year and in 2008 the politics became more important than the mods.
I hope for the MOTY 2009 that the moddb staff will rethink the situation and does neccessary changes... or many players will loose the interest in moddb... as the voting results are already known before the voting has started.
