Lucy recently posted an excellent tutorial on how to set up groups of weapons in freelancer.
Daywalker gave me a lesson and advice in pvp in using the strafe commands and other hints.
One thing I still struggle with especially when more than one player is involved is in selecting targets. I know these are available in the user interface but how do you set them up?
what precisely do they do?
do you have to preselect targets?
in the tdm is it possible to do this automatically?
I am at an obvious disadvantage to more experienced players and fighters but would like to improve. Any advice is welcome.
If it gets too complicated with too many keys i will become lost as I am a two fingered typist. how the hell do you remember them all?

Well, to be honest i have a Mouse with additional keys and i am using many keys of my keyboard, for my left hand.
It was a process for me - and i was drawing keyboard keys and their "best" (for me) position to use with which weapon very often.
You can assign a key to select targets, another one for subtargets probably and so on but an automatic switching like in NPC Fights will not happen as long as your targets are not signed hostile as far as i know.
ImO the best advice is a good mouse and an intelligent self outworked setup for your keyboard - it will fit you personal in the best way.

In TDM i usually target the nearest enemy after undocking (or the enemy that's getting on my nerves the most ).
When i'm attacked while i'm attacking another player, i switch to the attacker if i think it's getting dangerous (i'm usually too late).
When i manage to kill my target i just hit the key for "next target" until the next non-pink player is selected. -

He's right. I have my standard left/right mouse keys, scroll up/down for speed, middle mouse for engine kill, wheel tilt left - cd, wheel tilt right - cm.and my keyboard setup was made for a couple of months before I nailed it and it's kinda complicated to explain

i have had a habu razer mouse that has just broken & have replaced it with a logitech mx revolution. any suggestions on programming it?

try out what fits best for yourself.
which hand you are better on and what you prefer to use first (mouse or keyboard)
if you have sausage-fingers (like me) you should try to assign the keys in a way, that you dont press 2 keys at one time, while you are in a fight, and it gets more hectical

- definitely use setpoint (so you can map mouse keys to keyboard keys - helped me make wheel tilt CMs/CDs)
- you can use the 2nd scroll wheel for targetting (next target/prev target)
- Forward-back buttons can be used for thruster/engine kill = forward, and reverse thrust = back
hey maybe I could write a tutorial/tips about mouse mapping?
-
that would be much appreciated.
