Tactical Nukes?

  • Do you want I add Tactical Nukes in FL:EU? I think they can be put as this is a mod which have a war environment. This is the description I posted in my blog.

  • Nukes yes, tactical, no.
    I just wanna blow stuff up, who cares who, what where, why and how.

  • Whether or not it is popular I would recommend caution when designing high-yield explosives, the sheer power of sunslayers is more than a fighter would ever need, and to be honest the cannonballs will sink a VHF too.


    Perhaps develop a micro-nuke warhead which has an equal shield/hull damage - and make it a bugger to buy it too :D

  • It depends on the strength of the ships you plan to introduce into the game I think. With RazorBack I agree entirely if there is going to be a balance of all classes of ships (LF, HF, freighter, VHF, capital ship, ect.). That said, I have noticed in CF that with most of the fighters having relatively tough armor compared to vanilla, the effectiveness of vanilla munitions has been notably decreased (though not eliminated altogether). If you were to introduce high-powered explosives into your mod, my advice would to be to find a way to severely limit the kind of vessels that can weild such a weapon. Perhaps unmanueverable, bomber-type VHFs or larger warships, for instance. Not sure if that's possible, or how one accomplishes that, but it might be ludicrous to let just anything with a torpedo or missile slot access to such an armament, hehehe. ^^

  • all the classes are totally balanced. btw, they'll be monted on CD/T hardpoints. however, they're really expensive (let's say one nuke costs 2 times the value of a VHF)...

  • I think that there would be a chance of destroying rp if nukes are available for any ship smaller than a Battleship, or in the best case a Cruiser...People can make 100 mills in one without breaking a sweat per day so they would be able to buy...like 5 nukes per day or so...=> that would make pvp very short and uninteresting...if battleships or destroyers would be the only ones able to carry such a weapon people would be forced to work together and specialise in order to use that...+ nukes would not be used on incoming fighters because it would take out the cruiser/batt too (because of lack of maneuvrability)=> it would be best used against other capships, task forces and basses (so that they would take out...half a base or a quorter of a base...) :D

    Nukes are the slowest ballistic weapon available. It has a giant radius (let's say it can hit a whole capship formation) and can destroy all fighters there, almost all gunboats, and put cruisers/destroyers and bs on a bad situation.


    However, it'll be really expensive to buy it. Make 100 mil on FL:EU economy will be a hard task to you, and it'll be available only on few stations on the universe (Columbia League will have one selling point, the same applying to Sirius Union and Neutral Column). Another thing is that for a trader, neutrality with many factions is essential, and in war-time, it'll be a hard task (you can start on Bretonia, but coz Bretonia is neutral it doesn't mean the Rheinland Government will allow any1 from docking on Planet New Berlin, for example).


    Also, destroyable stations for now aren't planned to play a major role on FL:EU (only on Bar missions).

  • Also, the biggest application of these guys are for the battles (sometimes you'll fly alone on the Border Worlds, and you'll find few dozens of enemies over 9000 times bigger than you). So, anyone wouldn't be enough n00b to shot them on an asteroid field, or on fighters.


    As an additional note, if you're on battlezones like some Omega and Sigma systems, for example, and there are two battling fleets, and you shot on the enemy, but there's an ally on the radius, and the ally take damage and gets destroyed, make sure their friends will be upset really fast, and they'll be your deadliest enemies *really* fast.


    A classic example of pwn0r weapon, which can only be used by ppl who know what they're doing.
