  • I haven't played Freelancer in years and had been reading about this mod off and on for months and decided to check it out.

    I have a problem, it won't run.

I can run Freelancer without any issues at all.

To start off, Ive followed the install guide here: http://www.swat-portal.com/portal/download/CFguide.swf to a T, up to step 11 anyways, and still cant get the game to launch. The Crossfire launcher comes up, I let it update, and when I click to launch a multiplayer or singleplayer game, it closes and nothing happens.

I've tried restarting after the Freelancer install, I've tried installing the 1.1 patch just incase that wasn't listed as a needed step, I've tried launching the singleplayer before crossfire patched everything and it had the same problem. I rubbed Picards head with the mouse pointer to see if that would help, it didn't. I've downloaded Crossfire 1.7 from two different locations, on the SWAT website and from Filefront. I've started freelancer and accepted the agreement/whatever it is and then started the mod and nothing has changed.

I don't know if this could matter, but I'm installing the game on a seperate HD instead of C, I'm putting all my games on the E drive. I installed Freelancer, FLMM and then the crossfire mod all there. I'm running WinXP SP2 and I've not installed any other FL mods.

  • if the game does not load or crashes right at the start - did u delete any saved games (including Restart.fl) at "My Documents/My Games/Freelancer/Accts/SinglePlayer"?

also there might be the chance, that some needed files r missing, hence a corrupt installation on ur machine... (sorry to say, but this would need another clean installation)

about the different installation path ("E:" - drive): i know of ppl who do run it on a different path. but some ppl said they got it running, after they installed it on C:, when it didnt run on E: or any other drive. if possible, give it a try, please...

press alt-tab to display the EULA and accept it.. this is a quite common problem :) And is REALLY easy to fix too :]

    <td align="left" background="http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9442/swatwj7.png" width="2px"></td>

  • There is no EULA if I give it a fresh install and run the mod, I've even tried running the game before starting the mod and accepting the EULA and then enabling the mod.

When uninstalling the game I've told it to delete profiles/savegames/screenshots etc, I'll just have to manually check I guess.

I'll install it on the drive I have windows installed on and see what happens. This'll be the fifth time I've reinstalled the game.

  • well, just tried that, still nothing. I click single/multi and get an hour glass icon for a brief second then nothing happens.

Now I just disabled the mod, if I try to launch freelancer normally, I get "The application failed to inialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application"

Checking it out, this is the first thing I get from google "The error 0xC0000005 is generated by an illegal "memory access violation". This can be caused by anything from faulty RAM, an incorrect/corrupt device driver, poorly written/updated software and more commonly under Windows XP Service pack 2, malware/adware installations."

Now I only have this issue after disabling crossfire and trying to run freelancer.

Could I somehow have a bad copy of Crossfire even if I have downloaded it from two different locations?

  • plz write down all active (resident) software u have installed on ur windows, and don't miss anything.

  • 1. if you want to remove CF, disabling it is not enough. you have to restore backups too... if that doesn't work you need a clean install..
    2. please check again if that EULA is not running in the background...

    <td align="left" background="http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9442/swatwj7.png" width="2px"></td>

  • The game does not launch, even if I check the task manager it doesn't show up in there, there is no EULA coming up. There's nothing down in the task bar, i've even tried alt tabbing incase it is somehow invisible, nothing happens. I've let the computer sit for a little bit, nothing happens.

I don't run a software firewall or an antivirus. I run a few messengers, BOINC, and Steam. I also have Daemon Tools runs... I don't see how that could affect anything... but... anything's possible.

I'll disable that and see what happens.

  • dunno ur running programs look a bit like mine... try closing EVERYTHING [especially messengers + you can unplug your internet cord and close your antivirus...] and try to run CF again...

  • I just went in and did a fresh install/update in safemode, restarted into windows, disabled everything extra running in windows, the game still will not launch with crossfire activated.

    Son of a monkey....

    Guess what I just did.

I looked around in the freelancer folder, FLMM was putting everything in a mod folder inside the freelancer game folder, not installing it into the main freelancer folder. I copied everything in the mod folder into the main freelancer folder and the game booted right up.

  • :)

looks like maybe your FL directory was set wrong in FLMM..
    good that everything sorted out

    That would be completely useless.

Spank, when you click on Singleplayer or Multiplayer after that, does Freelancer.exe appear in the running processes in Task Manager?

that doesn't really seem proper, m8, cause there is no way flmm could have guessed ur freelancer folder for "freelancer/mod" folder or anything alike, if it was't ur own undoing in the 1st place.

and just by copying contents of that mod folder (which u say was created by flmm; highly doubtful, cause u were able to start launcher) to fl folder would result in corrupt fl copy, in the most cases.

anyway, having xp exposed to internet with no firewall or antivirus around would result in quite many virus/spyware/threat infections by relatively short time, and imho, ur cf issues could just be consequences of former situation.

    Blaster:
nobody asked u anything, m8. and if u continue with that child behavior towards me, i am certainly gonna get pissed; neither i nor anybody else would like that.

so, plz, mind ur own business. if u don't understand y i asked that question, i certainly do. finito.

hey hey ... calm down goodone...

for me its also very unclear why you want to see the full list of spanks resident software. I even don't know how the knowledge about it would help to get it solved...

I also had the described problem from spank at my PC - but i got it solved with a clean and fresh installation of freelancer and crossfire.
To put it on another HDD doesn't matter. I personally have every other software on another HDD as my windows partition is kept clean^^
So i assume and hope this hasn't got any effect.

What i can recommend is to really assure to make a clean installation. I firstly would recommend to save your save game into some backup directory. After this please remove crossfire, freelancer and the flmm from your disc - totally all. To be sure to make a really clean installation....

After this follow the steps from the guide - they are easy to understand^^ Spank you did it already - but i would give it another try ;)
After you installed freelancer to your declared directory (mine is also not c:\programs\Microsoft.... you know the default installation path) make sure you have removed the copy protection from this folder (remove the read only flag for the freelancer folder and its sub directories).

Then try to activate the mod with FLMM - its mandatory to activate it via FLMM as some further steps are done by it - that you cant do with a manual copy...

After you succeeded with everything try to launch the game, let it update itself by the launcher and hopefully have a nice start ;)
And make also sure you use up to date driver version for your graphic card. If this wont help either you can have a look to the windows event manager - there all event that happen are logged. If the game quits i am sure one entry is made there. -->

    Edit - thanks magnet i didnt realized^^

  • will y'all cut it out?? the problem's fixed - that's it.. i don't see any more reasons to argue and stuff.
