    once all SWAT websites are running again correctly (that should be this evening) i want to start a major update of this forum


    so friday and this weekend you may notice some minor errors on the forum during the update process
    there are going to be about 100 changes which should make the forum faster and more comfortable
    also some bugfixes will be included


    and now i need help.
    the mainpage of the forum looks a bit rubbish atm... i didnt have the time to create correct graphics for the section buttons (those blue ones and the bigger ones on the top of the page)
    since some of you have some very good graphical abilities id like to ask you if you can create such buttons for me
    same size (or a bit smaller) as the ones we use now -> note that those buttons need to stay visible even on high resolutions so the width should be big enough
    and the buttons shouldnt have a big file size due to loading speed

    besides no offense damian but OMG that image w/ 35 frames weights 1.4M [OMG] while my userbar w/ way more frames (44) & fps goes only about 180k...
    if u use Flash, try File -> Save & Compact.

    I use gimp, but looks like you do it better with flash so go on.

    hmm... gimp. i've never actually tried it but looks like it's just not the right thing for animation. get a flash m8 :)

    oh borders are interesting stuff... especially when you have a lower resolution and the borders get cut off at the right side ^^


    oh and that stuff needs to fit to the design of the forum... there are going to be 2 style templates -> the one we use now and one that is a bit darker like on the SWAT mainpage

    OP, why don't u close the SWAT Portal for this weekend so the upload of the files won't be disturbed by any1 ?

    i would recommend to use simple graphics like magnet made some examples. in magnets example you only need to make one pixel row and can multiply it by css style sheets or html style definition. that would be the fastet graphic you can get...


    Otherwise i would use a small pattern that can be repeated by itself - so the sections looks not boring.


    the buttons (menu bar at the top are quite OK - easy and can be loaded very fast - maybe a better allocation on the page would help^^)

    btw yes - imo the best graphics r the simplest (well most of the times) and especially for this occasion - u can stretch them w/ no limits and they load fast...

    BTW the forum background should have the same pattern like the portal - and we should use the same color layout (nothing very different from the portal layout) - so we can achieve a kind of corporate identity.


    Unfortunatly i am out of office on the weekend - but i will throw my 2 cent in this at the beginning of the next week - if its not too late...


    maybe we can do buttons with glowing effect - and use onmouseover functions - should be made by css ;D

    btw. the reason why i dont shut down the forum:
    ppl get more disturbed when they cant access the forum than by a few minor errors which are usually fixed in just a few mins

    Ah ok i see, you mean the "reply" one and those...Im afraid that if you change the forum style to look like portal, wich i consider a very good idea, i would create the buttons when the general look is done, to have an idea...and make the buttons fit into it.

    op, r u considering an option of having multiple choices for forum templates, too? it's a regular stuff of community pages, but SWAT offers only one on profile options menu.

    there was a reason for just one style template in the past
    but stuff has changes to more templates could be possible
    it will take some time coz those templates have to be created as custom styles
