Is it possible to mod the resolution to 1680x1050?
I would not know myself but I have seen other games that had lower a resolution and where someone has modded to a higher resolution.

yes that is possible
if i remember right you only need to edit the freelancer.ini
but you might experience that the hud does not really fit to this resolution
in that case it is possible to edit the interface cmps with utf in order to re-arrange the position of the hud elements (but thats alot of work and hard to do)

Wow but I think that would bring FL to life more IMO.
Just a thought but how tuff would it be for CF to come out with this?
And would it make very much difference?

Just tested it. Huge problem with the UI. The problem was it was no-were to be seen.
Also to get it to work you have to change the PerfOptions.ini as well.
the UI is build from small cmps/3db
in utf its possible to define positions... also the positions of textures
so its possible to align the ui to the new resolutions
I just set it to 1152 x whatever..... thats the highest option I get..... I would prefer 1440 x 900 though, as my laptop is widescreen
Well it would be more work then what good would come out of it. Maybe a project when you have nothing else to do and are very bored.

I really need to get this to work as well. I have a new monitor (HDTV) that I am now using. Sadly FL is not happy working at a resolution above 1024 x 768. I do not have problems with any other application. As more people are going the big screen way, perhaps this should be followed up on.
I followed most of what said, I have changed res in perf and that works but still no hud or partly missing. I am happy to do it all myself but could you point me in the right direction as to do the modding of hud gui's.
Once I get it working fully, I would be happy to write a guide etc for others. Just need a hand to get started.

i dont have FL installed at work so i will need to look into it later but i can at least direct you to the files you will need to change
data/interface/hud/
there you will find .3db files (or .cmp -> i cant remember)
those files contain the values which need to be changed
download the utf editor from our download area and open those files
somewhere inside are nodes you can open and edit
every material has some kind of position value that you can edit
but its going to be MUCH work
i think the files are .3db 's coz there are no high-poly, complex, uber-detailed models in HUD (for the detailed ones (like ships) there are .cmp 's, right?)
I don't know about higher resolutions, but changing it to simply 1280x1024 instead of 1024x768 (only the two .ini modified) has resulted in a very similar layout, just some unoticeable shift of hud's indicator but, ehi, the STARS ARE BRIGHT NOW, everything shines better!!

I plan to look at this during the week. It will be great to sort it. It is a shame that FL is the only game I have had res probs with using the new HDTV LCD. It would be my fav game as well..typical...just typical!
