. An exact timeframe is still soft, but if you were close to doing a fresh playthrough, it might be worth holding off just a little bit longer!

Hi all - we are working on the next MUP release: right now it will include the Hydra, Kraken, an updated Dula 7, the SO cruise liner and associated hulk, as well as the rest of the WCP starbases (Callisto, Confed Starbase, etc.). It will also incorporate the latest WCP Unlimited enhancements. No ETA yet but I'm going to see if we can get it out before the end of May. Watch this space.

There's a neat new tool for the

    Homeworld Remastered

    mod, Flag Commander.

    L.I.F.

has released an update to his player guide. It's a neat 85-page document that profiles all of the ships from the mod's major factions. There's helpful stats and background information for players to read up on. Grab it at the CIC Forums

    here

. L.I.F. has also worked out solutions to a variety of multiplayer bugs, which will be released in a forthcoming update.

A few updates to report over the last week, various bugs solved (thanks to reports from people who actually play the mod in multi!), made the convoy mechanic optional too, but most importantly, a return to the flight system for fighters: instead of building fighters one by one, they're back in flight groups of various sizes. In addition, you can find in the linked file an updated guide to the available units in the mod, for the Wing Commander III and IV eras. I'll

The Imperial Internal Security Service has moved to apprehend the Imperial slaves who were forcibly emancipated on Eotienses A 3.

Captain Madoc Evander made this announcement:

"An IISS taskforce was despatched to Port Isabelle to address the civil disorder arising from the release of 4,000 Imperial slaves, freed without financial support or recognised status. The troops successfully located all the liberated individuals and detained them in temporary holding areas."

"We have also arrested members of the radical group Autonomy for their role in this situation. Their spokesperson, Garrett Kline, has been charged with manslaughter, having crushed several rioting ex-slaves with his ship while attempting to escape the area."

"I'm pleased to report that any damage caused within the city is under repair, and disrupted services are resuming. As yet we are uncertain how to process the emancipated, but

JAYCE'S INTERSTELLAR EARTH ORBIT, SOL SYSTEM In the months since its inception, the Allied Cooperative Starship Development Board (ACSDB) has become a central figure in the rebuilding initiatives for both Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force. Now, after spearheading several successful design initiatives, the ACSDB announced it is expanding to welcome representatives from the Romulan Republic Navy and the Jem’Hadar Vanguard Fleet. Representatives of the ACSDB also announced inaugural programs for new Romulan and Jem’Hadar starships that utilize allied technological advancements and logistical resources. The ACSDB was created during the Iconian War to facilitate technology sharing initiatives between members of the Iconian Resistance. After the war, the ad-hoc alliance between the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Republic matured into a more formal one.

L.I.F. has made some great progress on his Freelancer port with Wing Commander ships. He's started adding cap ships and essentially has the Liberty faction set up with their familiar Confed equivalents. The carriers and destroyers look great in the game's engine, and he's even got fly-through bays working so players can take off and land. Plans are in work now to map out the rest of the game's ships in relatively short order, which sounds very promising!

    freelancer_port13t.jpgfreelancer_port14t.jpgfreelancer_port15t.jpg

The work keeps going on porting ships in-game, and here is another sneak peek, the Liberty Dreadnought replaced by a Confederation Jutland from Wing Commander Saga, which makes for a pretty cool sight overall. The Clarkson has replaced the ubiquitous transports, albeit at a relatively smaller size than in the games (though according to the absolutely foolproof CIC's wiki, it is 160 metres long for the Hellcat's 27 metres, and I'm keeping these

The GOG winter sale is in full swing, and the series is 75% off. This makes each title $1.49 or under $12 for the whole series! st3lt3k points out that Origin's 1989 sim Space Rogue is a whopping 90% off. This proto-Wing Commander title isn't quite up to the level of the original WC1, but you just can't go wrong for $0.59!

What should you get for the Wing Commander fan who has everything? GOG is here to help with the recent addition of Space Rogue, a space sim published by Origin about two years before Chris Roberts' Wing Commander arrived on the scene. The game was designed by Paul Neurath who went on to fame with Ultima Underworld and the System Shock series. Other notable WC vet contributors include Denis Loubet, Jeff Dee, Steven Muchow, Keith Berdak, Warren Spector and Dallas Snell. It's clearly dated by its late '80s graphics, and its gameplay has never been one to challenge the WC series, but

The Imperial Herald has published an obituary of Prince Harold Duval, who was assassinated by NMLA terrorists.
"Born in 3230 to Emperor Hengist, Harold Duval reacted against his father's puritan lifestyle by filling his days with partying and debauchery, becoming the black sheep of the Duval family."
"It was probably accidental that Harold had a child with entertainer Imogen Gabrielini, but they married shortly before her narcotics-related death. His daughter, Princess Aisling Duval, has always spoken warmly of her loving father."
"Emperor Hengist eventually decreed that his son was not fit for the throne, despite being his only heir. Harold never contested this, perhaps relieved to allow half-sister Arissa Lavigny-Duval to take his place."
"In recent years Harold became a recluse on Capitol, suffering ill-health from a lifetime of excesses. But a father's protective instinct motivated him to

HotT sent along an interesting video about the career prospects for Star Wars actors. It starts out with a look at how the original cast fared and then tries to extrapolate that onto some of the newer folks. Mark Hamill is up first, and they briefly talk about his time with Wing Commander. On top of his famous roles in WC3&4, he voice acted in the WC animated series and had an audio-only WC Movie cameo, which were right up his alley. It's crazy to think about how his work with the WC series began just a decade after his participation in the original trilogy! Jump to the 3 minute mark below to skip the ad up front.

There is a nice bit about Mark Hamill, with reference to his role in Wing Commander. And a brief reference for Harrison Ford:“After Star Wars, Ford found difficulty finding acting work and sorta faded into obscurity." LMAO

The WC4 Fan Remake team has posted a bit of a roadmap that lays out their next steps to make progress towards something playable. The target for next year will be to release an enhanced version of the actual WC4 demo that originally came out in 1996. It's a big leap from exciting teaser trailer to something interactive, so they've got their work cut out for them in the months ahead! You can learn more about the project at WCRespace.

Originally we had planned to do a first playable using mission 1 of the game, however LOAF of the CIC gave us a much better idea; to recreate the often overlooked original Wing Commander IV demo. Most of us had never played the demo, but we were pretty excited for a number of reasons. ...

The switch to producing a public release is not one to be taken lightly; a video can hide a multitude of incomplete features, the same can not be said of a demo. We’ve already made a

There's a scene with a chess board in the Wing Commander Movie, and that means we need to figure out exactly what set was used in the filming! LOAF studied the footage up close and grabbed some good shots of the pieces. He put a call out online, and surprisingly, fellow fans zeroed it almost immediately. You might have to repaint it, but you too could own the same set as Adam "Bishop" Polanksi!

This came up over the weekend and I have to throw it to any chess experts out there: does anyone recognize the set they use in the Wing Commander movie?

    movie_chess1t.jpgmovie_chess2t.jpgmovie_chess3t.jpg

Recreated the board with help from AD. And then Rosie's final move is (I think following one (1) reading of the Wikipedia entry on chess notation) Nxb3.

    movie_chess4t.jpg

Also it’s odd that Lt. Polanski is so obviously terrible at the game given that his call sign is Bishop and his nose art is a little chess board.

movie_chess5t.jpgmovie_chess6t.jpgBruce Erickson spotted this, which looks like a good match! It

Starports in the Coalsack and Witch Head Nebulas have been damaged during full-scale Thargoid incursions.
An appeal by Aegis for anti-xeno support led to a concerted response from the galactic community. However, the Thargoid forces proved to be overwhelming and have attacked systems within the nebulas, with the loss of thousands of lives.
Admiral Aden Tanner, chief military liaison of Aegis, broadcast this message:
"Despite the heroic efforts of many pilots, the alien ships have resisted being driven from the Witch Head Nebula."
"Aegis's military capability and manpower are both severely limited as a result of curtailed funding from the Empire and the Federation. We have no choice but to rely on independent pilots and anti-xeno squadrons as the first line of defence against the Thargoid threat."

AD came along an interesting Wing Commander sale at Movies Anywhere. As we reported a number of years ago, Movies Anywhere is a unifying service that allows your digital purchase from one storefront to appear in your library at many others. This includes Apple/iTunes, Amazon, Microsoft/Xbox, Google/YouTube and Vudu. Today's sale offers up free access to one of ten films if you buy one of a corresponding movie, including Wing Commander. Interestingly enough, WC is included in the Disney/Fox category, although the distribution rights have been a bit murky since reverting to Chris Roberts a few years back. Wing Commander briefly disappeared from storefronts and the disc copies went out of print, but it's since become widely available in digital format again for about $10.

As we continue into year two of the coronavirus pandemic, a small number of virtual conveniences have cropped up that I hope are

Today we've got a double feature of articles from Computer Games Strategy Plus. The first one is a brief blurb in the follow-up to E3 that year. There's not much info on the game, but a few elements really date the article. First, in 1996, we were still a ways from E3 being a giant online spectacle. Given standard lead times, it would just be natural that news from the springtime event would be trickling out in the August issue (which would have appeared on shelves 1-2 months afterwards). Also on the game picking up the "Privateer" title, they note gamers have "always wanted an updated version of that classic." That's a funny take from our perspective nearly thirty years after P1's release.

The second article is the big one. It's got a fantastic cover celebrating the game, plus a huge two-page feature with plenty of exotic art. They talk about the interactive movie's story, open world setting,

Chronocidal Guy is back with a new update on his impressive 3D printed Excalibur model. He's not quite ready to share changes on the actual fighter, but he's got a new display stand that's custom fit for the design. I have a few impressive WC models that fans have made before, and figuring out how to best display them is always a consideration. It might seem like a minor detail, but it makes a big difference!

    chronocidal_excalibur31t.jpgchronocidal_excalibur32t.jpgchronocidal_excalibur33t.jpgchronocidal_excalibur34t.jpg

I did manage to print a stand for it, which was a quickie I did at lower resolution, and it resulted in a little bit of a rough finish, but it's enough to tell it's a good design. Still need to build up the detail panels. I might not print them myself, but I want to fix them so they're a part of the model, rather than the current blank spots.

I should be getting the details started sometime after Memorial day, so will try and get some updates here soon.
