Bear with me here, this is one I did not expect. Here's a picture of former President Trump and his wife with his ambassador to the United Kingdom, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and his wife Suzanne...

redshirt_number4_1t.jpg... the press tells me that Mrs. Johnson is close friends with former First Lady Melania Trump. She's done a lot to use her position to support Ukraine this past year which is pretty neat...

redshirt_number4_2t.jpgredshirt_number4_3t.jpg... but in 1995 her maiden name was Suzanne Ircha... and she was an actress... who played Confed Redshirt #4 in Wing Commander IV! She's one of the young pilots in awe of Colonel Blair when he arrives on the Lexington! (Along with the always noticeable Casper Van Dien.)

redshirt_number4_4t.jpgShe also had a similarly brief cameo in an episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9.

AD found an interesting throwback at one of those online flea market-type websites. It's a Wing Commander Movie VCD out of Malaysia that we might not have seen before. VCDs themselves are relics of a certain era, since bootleg DVDs have been around for quite some time. WC VCDs certainly did exist, but they got decidedly less colorful artwork than this example. I particularly like the cheesing Chris Roberts right in the middle there. Anyone with RM4 plus shipping could be the proud owner of this bizarre artifact!

wc_vcd1t.jpgHere's a couple of those '99-'01 vintage discs in case you were curious!

wcm-vcd2t.jpgwcvcd2t.jpgLOAF adds that the Turkish VCD is actually a legitimate authorized product:

More_Boom_Boom recently unearthed this Christmas card from his sister. It dates back a few years to when he was building a Star Citizen computer, but his sister didn't know all those details. Nevertheless, if he's anything like me, all of his family and friends are well aware of his affection for Wing Commander. I'm very impressed by the attention to detail here. It's a pretty recognizable Hornet cockpit targeting a Dralthi. What a great sister!

She had the right idea. Just a couple decades off.

LOAF, AD and the team have been doing big and exciting things lately with Privateer 2. To further their research and project prep, we're holding a group watch-along of the "director's cut" footage posted by P2 director Steve Hilliker for the game's 25th anniversary. To join in, visit Discord #Wingnut on Monday evening at 9 PM Eastern Time. This YouTube link is all you need!

LOAF: Set your nav computers for fun: join us on Monday at 9 PM Eastern at the CIC Discord for a group watch of the Privateer 2: The Darkening 25th Anniversary movie cut!

If you want to enhance the experience even further, there is also AD & ODVS' special remastered version of the material that improves the quality and resolution even more. You can download it here (2.7 gig mkv) and watch with something like VLC. Here's a comparison of the two versions:

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is chock full of Wing Commander easter eggs from the "now entering automatic landing zone" comm message near planets to the... entire awesome premise of the game, but Fek'Leyr Targ found a fun one I hadn't seen before. In the attached screenshot, you can make out a "G. Burrows wuz here" scratched into the dust of the local space bar. Grayson Burrows was the conceptual name of the main Brownhair character in Privateer (later confirmed but the Star*Soldier magazine). Good catch!

rebelgalaxy_outlaw15t.jpgLast week we posted a few ships from RGO that fans had faithfully recolored in classic WC textures, and st3lt3k just shared a few more! The first is an RGO Coyote made by Jughead1981 and there's also a Sandhawk by MasterRevan2013. Those grays and greens look really nice.

Friday night score! Happened across several pre-release Super Wing Commander screenshots. Note the older VDU graphics and the early cockpit that's more TIE Fighter than Hornet!

swc_preview_blurbt.jpgA preview build seems to have been provided to magazines in early 1994... wonder if it's floating around somewhere! Here's what the finished cockpits looked like.

The Federal Intelligence Agency has traced the funding of an illegal nuclear research outpost to the Zlota system.

Senior Agent Rochelle Karim provided the following details:

"Having successfully decrypted the outpost's communications, we have determined that Zlota Federal Holdings was financing these unregistered research projects. Several of the organisation's principal figures were covertly redirecting public funds to construct portable nuclear weapons."

"We suspect that one of these individuals became greedy and arranged for the outpost to be raided, acquiring the prototype Lucifer Device to subsequently sell on the black market."

"The FIA is currently questioning the Zlota Executive Council to learn more. It is crucial that we locate the Lucifer Device, which poses a serious threat to public safety."

Here's an oddity from the August 1994 issue of Gamesworld magazine. Wing Commander Armada is previewed alongside System Shock, and while the text has little new info, that logo sure is unusual! It's certainly a very similar typeface to the real Armada logo, but has a 3D quality we don't normally see, and we've seen a lot of Armada logos. Either they got this cool design from a press distribution or had a very keen eye for making up their own. As for the prediction that "Wing Commander Armada is bigger and badder than it's (sic) predecessor and jam-packed with improvements and enhancements," sure.
