has made more progress with his Wing Commander

    tabletop

game. He's pretty close to being able to playtest the game with fellow fans thanks to finalization of some stat tables. There's also an attractive new 3x6" card layout for characters and ships. Last, but not least, he's also testing out different logo designs. The one below is my favorite!

So I've had a bit of a semi-quasi-productive day today. I'm getting closer to a point where I feel like I'll be ready to start doing pre-alpha play testing and as a part of that I'm working on fleshing out stats. This is a point where using something like Excel has been a huge time saver as I can simply enter the bits of data and allow Excel to do whatever calculations I've set up. In this case I set up a spreadsheet to take the burn value, turn value, shields, hull points, how many flares and/or decoys the fighter has, how many missiles in

    GOG's annual

    spring sale

is now in full swing, and Wing Commander discounts are back! Individual games in the series are now 75% off at $1.49 each or $11.92 for the whole series until Thursday. A new feature has also recently been added:

    cloud saves

! The front page is advertising WC1&2, WC3, Academy, Armada, Privateer and Privateer 2 support this feature if you have the GOG Galaxy client installed. No word on WC4 or Prophecy yet, but they say many more games will be added in the future. I've recently really come to rely on cloud saves for other things. It makes it so much easier to sit down and get going automatically when you log in to different systems. It also makes backing up and upgrading a snap.

There's a lot of buzz today on social media wishing Wing Commander 3 a happy birthday. However, most longtime Wingnuts will recall Wing Commander 3 as the hot Christmas present of 1994. What were we doing in the spring of 1994 instead? Playing the newly released Righteous Fire or Super Wing Commander (depending on whether you were a PC or Mac owner).

So how did the internet get March 27, 1994 burned into its brain? The main culprit seems to be the release date on EA's Origin page for Wing Commander 3, and that date is itself a mixup of two dates. March 27, 1996 was the release of WC3 for the Playstation, but the game shipped for PC first on December 8, 1994. In between those milestones, it also debuted on the 3DO June 23, 1995 and on the Mac September 27, 1995. So when this comes up in your circle of friends, now you know the whole story!

The head of personnel at Rackham Capital Investments has died in an accident, becoming the second senior-level employee to have died in recent weeks.

Journalist Bryanna Blanco commented in The Federal Times:

"Senior executive Derrin O'Shea was killed when his personal limousine malfunctioned and crashed. The incident has not been ruled as suspicious. O'Shea's position was filled within hours by a supporter of Taja Gavaris, however. Gavaris herself inherited the CFO role in a similar fashion following her predecessor's recent death."

"With two close allies gone, CEO Zachary Rackham must feel under threat. This corporate power struggle increasingly resembles two pirate captains fighting to become overall leader."

"The authorities have again declined to begin a formal investigations into Gavaris and Rackham, claiming a lack of evidence. How many more casualties must occur before this conflict is

The Federal Intelligence Agency has discovered an intact cryogenic pod underneath an outpost once used by Far God worshippers.

Freelance reporter Alexei Keel broke the news on Vox Galactica:

"The FIA survey team had been scanning the abandoned base on Etain 4 c with customised military sensors. It's thought this operation is part of a search for a missing undercover agent who infiltrated the Far God cult."

"A faint power source was detected in a collapsed underground chamber, which led agents to a solitary cryogenic pod hidden beneath tons of debris. Once excavated, it was conveyed to a medical facility where efforts to safely revive its occupant are now underway."

"There was no way of identifying who is inside the pod. But it seems likely that they are one of the adherents who recorded audio logs at the site, prior to entering suspended animation to await the Far God."

Taja Gavaris, the new CFO of Rackham Capital Investments, has been accused of having a criminal background as a pirate leader.

Journalist Bryanna Blanco made this declaration in The Federal Times:

"During my reporting on multi-billionaire Zachary Rackham, I have become convinced that he and many others employed by Rackham Capital Investments were once pirates, who laundered their stolen money and moved into legitimate business."

"New research has proved that Taja Gavaris was once a criminal rival of Rackham. I believe that Gavaris used her knowledge of Rackham's past to blackmail her way into his organisation, and is now challenging for ownership by eliminating his loyal supporters."

"The Federal Times has published many similar revelations about 'Calico Zack' over the years, yet no criminal investigation has been established. Perhaps this time the authorities will investigate before Gavaris's
