Found a Wing Commander III bug! In the first scramble mission (B1 or C1) you are automatically assigned three wingmen: Weasel (a scripted death) and then Maniac and Mitchell. If one is shot down, they're replaced by a rotation: Vagabond, Bacon Boy, Hobbes, Flint, Cobra, Vaquero, Maniac, Vagabond. But it doesn't check for duplicates, so you can end up with two Maniacs or two Vagabonds! It's unlikely to ever happen during regular gameplay because there isn't really anything in the mission that will kill six of your wingmen.

Last week, we released our first No Man’s Sky update for 2022: SENTINEL. An overhaul and refresh of combat is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, so it’s very exciting to now be able to share this work! It’s always great to see how our amazing community engages with each update; we’ve loved reading about everyone strategising against the expanded sentinel forces, using the new weapons in creative and interesting ways, as well as unearthing sentinel secrets and constructing robotic companions.

It’s been such a thrill to see players enjoying our most recent major update, OUTLAWS. Whether it was hunting down pirates for lucrative bounties, becoming an intergalactic smuggler yourself, seeking the treasure of The Blight in the most recent expedition, or just stylishly exploring space in a cape – it’s been a delight to watch you all take to the skies.

Today, we are very excited to bring you No Man’s Sky’s latest expedition: Leviathan. We aim to give every expedition a unique character and style of gameplay, but we think Leviathan feels especially different.

Our seventh expedition traps Travellers inside a time loop, and offers a taste of roguelike gameplay. Difficulty is tuned to survival-mode settings, and every death means a reset of the loop.

Yesterday, we released the OUTLAWS update for No Man’s Sky, enabling the pirates of the universe to better retaliate against the SENTINEL authorities upgraded earlier in 2022. After we revisited and refreshed planetary combat in SENTINEL, it felt like a natural progression to improve ship handling and combat, and deepen pirate-related gameplay throughout No Man’s Sky. The passionate community response is always fantastic fuel for us – it’s exciting to see you all claiming and piloting the new Solar Ships, fighting against or aiding outlaw forces, and swishing around in capes.

Hello!

One of our biggest surprises in 2021 has been the popularity of Expeditions. It’s been absolutely lovely to watch folks play No Man’s Sky in new ways (like working together to escape a hellish planet, which prompted this lovely Eurogamer article), and to surprise players with unexpected rewards (like the moment the Normandy from Mass Effect warped into No Man’s Sky for the first time in Beachhead).

We have always wanted starting a new expedition to be an exciting refresher, a way for experienced players to find a new perspective on No Man’s Sky, or for new players to find a part of the universe they hadn’t yet experienced. But this very busy year, and the limited-time nature of the expeditions, has meant that it has been difficult for some people to participate in them.

As a one off, we wanted to give people who missed out on any of this year’s expeditions another chance to experience the unique challenges and
