Foundry Spotlight: [AEI] In Silence The Foundry is a special program within Star Trek Online that allows users to make their own episodes, playable by other Captains within STO. To access it, open your Mission Journal, and select “Foundry,” at the top. Every now and then, we like to spotlight a particularly interesting or unique mission for all of you to experience. This time, we’re spotlighting “[AEI] In Silence” by Starfarertheta. In Silence is part of an initiative called the Alliance Exploration Initiative, created by fan podcast The Foundry Roundtable. The goal was to create missions based around exploration, not just combat. In Silence takes you on a mission to meet up with a very demanding ambassador, which quickly goes off course and becomes an exploration of a long-dead space station, full of interesting and wonderful surprises. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue choices in the

has put together a new wallpaper that's super sweet. The star is a Yorktown class light carrier that's mocked up in WC1/2 style colors. To the fit the aesthetic, he's smoothed a few curves in key locations around the structure. The Victory may have been old in WC3, but she was still quite potent, and scenes like this make you wonder how cool it might have been to fly off one in the earlier stages of the war. Marc took a stab at this concept a long

This was kind of a "what if" spin off of a WC1 or 2-ized Yorktown. I got the idea looking at some of the renders from the old Tac Ops manual. The mesh has a few minor changes from the WC3 variety, the most obvious being the oval conning tower as opposed to the rectangular one, and the round-style turrets. Also the engine nacelles are rounded and beveled a bit.

Greetings Cryptic Fans, On April 11, we are sad to announce that we will be sunsetting the Foundry system for Neverwinter and Star Trek Online. This decision was not made lightly; the Foundry was a passion project for many of us, and we have loved seeing the unique stories and awesome content our Foundry Authors have produced. Developers and players alike have enjoyed using the Foundry and the friends we’ve made and the journeys we’ve had will live on in our memories. Our team at Cryptic strives to create excellent content and maintain a high standard of quality for our games. However, the legacy knowledge required to maintain the Foundry at our quality standards is no longer available. Our goal is to continue creating top-notch content for our current and upcoming games - and the development time and resources required to maintain the Foundry would impede on these new features and systems.

We have just released another small patch, which mainly prepares the game for its release on physical cartridges, but also fixes the following two issues:

    Bugfixes:
    • Don't offer additional primary weapon slot at tuning stations when having ancient weapon glyph equipped
    • Fixed deadlock when a progress bar success type message was removed from viewport while equipment selection wheel was opened

Note that we don't have a definitive date for the physical release yet, but we'll announce it shortly! Have fun playing!

Minor grail acquired: one of the post cards Origin sent to customers who had pre-ordered

    The Secret Missions

in 1990. “Happy Wing Commandering!” This was hidden in a seemingly normal listing for a copy of Wing Commander I. Big box collectors, always look closely at what someone has kept with their old games...

sm_postcard1t.jpgsm_postcard2t.jpgThis copy had some other treasures, too, including an old packing slip I can’t share because it’s full of someone’s personal information. But peep this: one of the counter placards that would’ve sat next to a store computer showing off the WC rolling demo!

Hey there - my name is Jo, and I'm the UI designer on STO! To say I am passionate about this update is a bit of an understatement. My first goal upon joining the team was to address the Character Creator UI, and when they said I could work on it I literally jumped up and danced. I am ecstatic that my first post gets to be about something I care (maybe too much) about: Player Experience and Space Barbie. Okay, that was two things I care greatly about... The character creator is one of those features you see in games that started out simple, and worked fine when it was made, but as new factions and species were added to the game, it quickly got bloated and overwhelming. My first goal was to clean up the UI and cut down on the visual clutter. We used to just throw every option at you all at once on one page. When I built my first character I was so excited to see all the options, and the LCARS were
