Klavs is back to polish his Sabre model again, and he's got a neat new setup here. He's put together an expansive 8K backdrop and then added his own models to it for a very ultrawide wallpaper. It would fit nicely across two 4K monitors with very slim bezels or anchor a higher/wider monitor very well. The ships look slick as always, and the Sabre is especially mean from a head-on perspective!

Fiddling with these models again with a heavily tweaked Midjourney AI background and a LOT of passes to make it look more painterly.

Titan Oya in the Cephei Sector BV-Y B4 system has been confirmed as destroyed by Aegis, leaving five still operational.
Aden Tanner, Aegis's lead anti-xeno strategist, delivered a cautionary statement:
"I must remind all Commanders that these missions are highly dangerous and cannot be undertaken lightly. Entering a Maelstrom and flying close to a Titan requires your ship to be outfitted with caustic sink launchers and Thargoid pulse neutralisers. AX weaponry will also prove useful, as will Guardian nanite torpedoes to target the Titans' thermal vents."
"Be warned that your combat skills will be tested. Counter-attacks by Thargoid vessels become more frequent as the Titans take damage , and the mothership's own turrets are deployed more aggressively. I would like to see veteran anti-xeno pilots passing on their knowledge to less-experienced pilots, to prevent unnecessary risks."

A long-standing enmity between two military leaders has escalated into hostilities in the Drevlyada system.

Details were provided by freelance warzone reporter Karleen Troy:

"The personal rivalry between General Kendrick of Namab Purple Brothers and Marshal Cooper of Drevlyada League has lasted for years. Each frequently accuses the other of incompetence and endangering the people of Drevlyada."

"This grudge match has now spiralled into a state of open conflict. Both Kendrick and Cooper have asked the galactic community to provide support in crushing their opponent's forces."

The two factions have set out week-long campaigns to take control of the Drevlyada system, which will begin on the 21st of February 3305.

The Origin history book Through the Moongate, from Wing Commander and Ultima VII to Portalarium now has a back cover! In his December update, author Andrea Contato shared an initial preview of artist Manda's conceptual draft. This will also be featured on the project's awesome cloth art piece. The cloth was included at the €110 tier, but may be available as a €30 extra as inventory allows by contacting Mr. Contato. There's still a lot of work to go, but it prominently features a Kilrathi warrior looking down on a couple of Ultima characters. There's also a Dralthi in the corner, which happens to be the movie's distinct KF-100 variant. I was sold by Denis Loubet's bookmark, but this WC art on the cover will be a nice bonus!

GOG.com has kicked off their Spring Sale, and this time it has a special emphasis for those who are able to shelter in place and hunker down at home. There are a handful of free games available to help jump start this effort. Most of them are lesser known, but the list does include Ultima IV, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams. The Wing Commander games are broadly 75% off, so it's just $11.92 for the whole series. If you are looking at a significant amount of downtime coming up, catching up on your Wing Commander playthrough would be a great way to pass the time. And if all of the goings on this week are causing you stress, come on by #Wingnut and hang out with your fellow Wing Commander fans. It helps to talk!

Here's a treat you've never seen before! This is the trailer that was created to test Digital Anvil's ability to produce a Wing Commander Movie. It was quietly shown at the 1998 SXSW in Austin, Texas. Thanks to Banjo, now you can see it too!

In order to raise interest in a Wing Commander feature film among prospective partners and raise money for production by selling future distribution rights, Digital Anvil produced a short one minute trailer featuring an action scene.

Astute fans will notice that, while the Kilrathi capital ship is visually very similar to the Concom seen in the final movie, the space fighters are more detailed versions of ships in the games themselves. The human pilots are flying WC1 and 2 style Rapiers, and the Kilrathi appear to be piloting Vaktoths (previously seen in WC3). Shot in 1997 not too long after WC4 shipped, the cockpit sets and costumes are left over from the

ODVS is back with another exciting video enhancement. While the lion's share of his work has been focused on WC3, WC4 and Prophecy over the last year, today's sample focuses on Privateer 2! About a year ago, P2 director Steve Hilliker posted a wonderful compilation of enhanced footage pulled from some of the best source material still in existence. While it was a nice bump from what was included in the game, modern enhancement techniques can do some amazing things. AD and Owen worked together to add some excellent detail, and this teaser shows both side-by-side. You can grab the full 68 minute video here (2.7 gig mkv)!

*PLEASE ENSURE YOU'RE WATCHING THE 4K QUALITY STREAM TO SEE ALL IMPROVEMENTS*

AD got in touch to let me know he was cleaning up Steve Hilliker's "The Darkening" 25th Anniversary Remaster and asked if I'd like to get my "AI upscale thing to do its magic" and... er... remaster the

Here's a nice spread from the December 1996 issue of the French gaming magazine Joystick. We start with a wonderful cover shot of the Heretic fighter, which is great to see since Privateer 2 was also competing with C&C Red Alert for top billing this month. There's a full five pages of preview material, and although I don't read French, it's just fun to see the layout. The Darkening is full of wonderful FMV set pieces and a unique combat engine, so this is full of eye candy. You can find the full issue at archive.org here.
