…An officer in the Federal Navy Engineering Corps has been arrested for sabotaging the presidential vessel Starship One.
A statement was made by Milandu Okoro of the Federal Attorney's Office:
"Chief Technician Rory Webster was a department head of engineering for Starship One. Testimonies from members of Mr Webster's team claim that he ordered unauthorised adjustments to the ship's hyperdrive systems while in drydock, shortly before its launch in May 3301 and subsequent destruction."
"This case is now being brought before the Federal High Court, where Mr Webster will stand trial for mass murder and attempted treason."
There has been no comment from President Zachary Hudson, but Shadow President Felicia Winters told the press:
"This was a truly horrific tragedy, and there must be justice for all those who lost their lives on that sad day."

…To tie into yesterday's WC4 Remake news,
DefianceIndustriescontinues to pump out some very impressive post-war ship designs. He's got two new flavors of the Arrow up today, including the rich Confed green and red/blue Pirate variant. They'll fit nicely with his
Black Hellcat,
Southampton destroyerand
Caernaven frigate. Be sure to zoom in on these to see all the great detail. They might look like typical Arrows in the thumbnails, but they're pretty slick up close!
It's a quiver full of arrows! Well ok maybe 2 isn't really that many. We have two flavors of F-27 on the menu today, the WC4 Confed green version (now with extra arugula) and the under gunned but over-painted Piratical version: which really doesn't get nearly enough love in my opinion, either WC4 where I think it only cameos in a single mission; or in fan productions in favor of more distinct ships like the Razor or Demon.

…Concept Art
Early in Wing Commander's development, Origin artist Glen Johnson created a series of schematics showing the 21 ships the game's designer had planned to include. Each schematic was created using a traditional draughting technique which resulted in five different views: front, back, side, top and bottom (only three for the Star Post). Origin didn't yet have their own 3D artists and so the schematics were sent to the team of Mary Bellis and Steve Spear in New York City who rendered out the in-game sprites using an Amiga.
We recently published a selection of the images scanned from Claw Marks and modified to show both the top and bottom views of the ships (available here). That project prompted us to take a look at the history of how these original 103 ship views were reused over the years and to inventory exactly which remain lost to time.

…Art Portfolio
Mike Winterbauer reports that he's finished putting together the dedication page in his Wing Commander
with all of the project backers who pledged at the appropriate $25+ Book threshold. For a limited time between now and when the material soon goes to print, he's put out a call for anyone who missed the end of the campaign and wanted to upgrade to be included. If so, send
Mikea
message. There were at one point quite a few folks who hadn't input their addresses for the rest of the project rewards, so if you missed that cutoff, be sure to send a quick message regarding that too!
The exciting news is I have added the book pledge backers names to the second page of Wing Commander Art Portfolio! If you want to get your name in the book, you can still upgrade your pledge, send me a note and I will work with you, but time is running out.
Thank you all cool backers for making Wing Commander
