Here's a couple of really cool Japanese advertisements that LOAF recently came across. As is common in the country, they're chock full of text and liberal with the exclamation marks. The first is a small embedded ad for the Mega CD port of Wing Commander 1, which was the only version that got full speech as it was transferred to the disc-based format. We also get to see a sell sheet for the Japanese Armada, which was ported to a surprising number of platforms: PC-98, FM Towns and DOS/V. I love that Armada color tone filling the Japanese block text!

Little find this morning: an ad for the Mega-CD port of Wing Commander I from a Sega flyer. I'd love to find the advertising ASCII did for Wing Commander SFC in Japan!

There have been a few known issues on AMD GPUs that we cannot pin down exactly to specific models or drivers. What we know is that when running AMD on open source drivers at least MESA 17.2 with LLVM 5 is required. We received a few reports indicating that proprietary AMD-GPU-Pro were working but were unable to confirm this.

Electronic Arts kicked off the big line of press conferences for E3 2018 this past weekend, and it became quite clear that the new BioWare franchise Anthem was the highlight of their presentation. However, fan-favorite developer BioWare is in a bit of an awkward position with Anthem as their big focus of development. It will be their first title released after Andromeda, which has led to something of a break for the Mass Effect series after its mixed reception.

Given this, BioWare has promised that the Mass Effect hiatus does not mean that the series is dead. Eurogamer recently conducted an interview with BioWare’s Mike Gamble, who is currently working as the lead producer of Anthem. One of the big topics about Anthem regarded how the game is different from other BioWare games, including Dragon Age and Mass Effect. According to Gamble:

Version 0.5 and 0.6 fell off the back of a gigantic space truck, if you're wondering. Kidding aside, a lot of comments indicated that version numbers were often being associated with completion percentage (though they're really just numbers to us), so we've decided to play along and go with version 0.7 - as the inclusion of the functional cockpits, the Glyphs and the Ancients are all big additions and we're fast-approaching full release.
