Anyone out there looking for some new Privateer-centric 3D environments to play with is in for a treat! Cybot has a released a handful of new assets ranging from large to small. These include items like the weapon commodities and a flight sim pod. There's also a larger commodity exchange and CIC room. The big treat is an entire hangar big enough to host a Galaxy. The Wing Commander movie club has returned from that horrible Planet of the Apes with a shocking revelation. …We have another update on the road towards Origin composer George Oldziey's next great Wing Commander album. Unfortunately progress intersected with the devastating fires in California recently. Mr. Oldziey happened to be on the ground near LA as things were happening. He and his friends are safe, but some of the folks he was visiting sadly lost their homes, and the audio studio where they were set to work on the album mix was also without power for the trip.
Although this will slightly slow completion of the project, work still continues remotely as George continues to finalize the sound with expert audio engineer Bruce Botnick. He's also put together this impressive sample to give fans a taste of what's to come!

Pretty neat discovery by AD: the German dub of Wing Commander Prophecy includes two post-mission attaboys that aren’t present in the English release!
They are both included in the shooting script and the schedule! It’s not some giant missing piece but it’s pretty neat to see more of Ginger’s Rachel… even if she’s speaking German! Yes we are adding the entire German dub to Holovids! You can learn more here and here.

…An independent explorer has reported an unusual incident involving a Thargoid vessel, hundreds of light years away from the ongoing invasion.
Commander Renia Rakowski told her story to Vox Galactica:
"I'd been gathering exploration data for weeks without seeing another soul. Boring, I know, but I like a quiet life. As I jumped out of the Wregoe GA-X B3-0 system, my ship rocked violently and I panicked, thinking the hyperdrive had failed. I barely saw it at first, black against the black of space, until its outline glowed. A Thargoid interceptor. Just like on the newsfeeds, but right outside my canopy."

…There have been some new developments with the Peacock service this month, and this could affect your access to stream Wing Commander Academy. As you know, Peacock added WCA to its slate of shows back in 2020. Although the series is readily available on DVD for cheap, there are a handful of improvements that make the streaming edition arguably superior, including better music/voice sound balance. A few items fixed on disc were not incorporated, however, and you can read all about these differences here. In 2021 a countdown appeared that implied the show would be moving to a higher paid tier, but this was soon dialed back. The ticker has now reappeared, which suggests it may only remain in its current form until the end of the month. Presumably, the show would remain in either the Premium or possibly Premium Plus category.

Wing Commander II Characters is a development document created during the making of Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi. It is dated December 3, 1990 and is an early description of Wing Commander II's characters and their planned story arcs. The document is part of the Warren Spector Papers at the University of Texas at Austin's Briscoe Center for American History (box 2008-091/6).Much of the material planned in the document is significantly different from the finished game including plans for significantly more missions to take place before the arrival of the Concordia. …The recent three-way conflict between Princess Aisling Duval, Jerome Archer, and Li Yong-Rui has drawn to a close, with all parties claiming success.
The campaign began with Federal and Sirius-aligned forces launching operations into Princess Aisling's territory around the Daikulcandi system, citing concerns over instability following her prolonged absence from domestic affairs. Imperial loyalists responded in high numbers, rallying behind Princess Aisling's call to arms and defending her influence over several key systems.
Aisling's forces retained control in Daikulcandi and neighbouring strongholds but were forced to concede territory in Gondul and Santy where both Archer's Federal supporters and the Sirius Corporation's auxiliary fleets concentrated their efforts.

…Here's a strange treasure! AD was looking through back issues of Hungarian gaming magazine 576 Kbyte when he found that they once held a contest to write a Wing Commander story! Celebrating the then-imminent release of Wing Commander IV, 576 Kbyte offered readers a variety of prizes supplied by Electronic Arts in exchange for Wing Commander-related stories or artwork…
... and then they published the winning story across three issues! Google's translate feature seems to suggest it's a sequel to Wing Commander III that involves multiple Behemoths and some kind of Kilrathi outlaw. We aren't totally sure what the contest refers to as a 'handbook'; did they mean an article printed in their periodical, a Hungarian-language hint book or was this also printed in the localized manual for the game? We'd love to know more!

…Here's a first: a bit of Wing Commander-adjacent history reported by my wife! She came across a cover story about Freddie Prinze Jr. from the February 2000 issue of Seventeen on an Instagram account called imstuckin.1999 which provides a bit of a look at how he was marketed to teenage girls around the time of the Wing Commander movie! It even quotes Matthew Lillard and notes that they became friends on set in Luxembourg. And great news for collectors: the magazine had two different Freddie Prinze Jr. covers!
During the release of Wing Commander I remember working closely with the "fan girls" running news sites like ours but for Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard… and frankly, it was a lot more interesting way to interact with people than bickering with other gamers! I'm sad to report that we didn't think much of Judge Dredd! It's such a weird mess of a movie... the cool British sci-fi world and the world class SFX just weren't enough to balance out a confusing, disengaged plot and some actors... chief among them the bizarre choice of Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider as the leads. The setup is too offputting and doesn't spend enough time engaging you... you just don't ever feel like rooting for anyone. Incredible props, visual effects and sets, though! The happiest surprise of the night was the discovery of the after credits song, the bespoke "Dredd Song" provided by... The Cure?! What was going on with this movie?

I found something recently that I’ve been looking for many, many years: the CD of production music that was the source of the diegetic clip in the Wing Commander movie where Paladin is listening to opera! I haven’t found anyone else who collects production music, but my CD is part of a lot of like twenty others from the same series and I’m happy to pass those on to interested parties should they exist. It's been a month since we last checked in on Dennis Mull's latest Wing Commander finds, and he's been busy adding to the collection all the while. Up first, he's gotten ahold of a European edition of the Prophecy/Alpha Centauri/Red Alert bundle. I love the white box and colorful blended artwork on this one. He's also finally added a Pilgrim Cross to the mix. This one is in excellent condition with a all contents in practically new condition. Dennis was also the winner of a set of CIC coasters at last month's Birthday Party, so it's nice to see those go to a good home too!
Here we see an updated shot of Dennis' Wing Commander shelf. Not bad at all! Keep in mind that most of those duplicate copies are actually variants of the games from different geographic regions, so this is a diverse and extensive collection!
And here's some love for other Origin/Chris Roberts games too!
