…After BioWare’s decision to put the future of Mass Effect on hiatus, the series’ direction is looking pretty uncertain despite its assured continuation. Split-reception of the most recent entry aside, the planet-hopping, alien-bedding, and Reaper-fighting exploits of the original trilogy nonetheless remains in the majority of fans’ hearts. Each title notably opens with an epic showcase to catch players up to speed with Commander Shepard and crew, but Mass Effect 2 accomplished this in a way players likely wouldn’t have expected: it killed the main character.
Of course, the space-faring sequel didn’t lead with that ominous revelation, as it actually began by introducing one of the series most memorable and enigmatic characters, the Illusive Man. Let’s begin with the hot topic currently setting spectrum aflame. Boyce Baudin is back! But don’t you dare call him “Babyface” anymore. The beloved comedic actor with the cherubic visage disappeared from the public eye for months, canceling several spectrum appearances without warning. Rumors swirled that the notoriously hard partying prankster might’ve finally allowed his cravings to control him. Now we know, thankfully, that wasn’t the case. But many of Boyce’s longtime fans are less than pleased with the real reason for his self-imposed sabbatical…

…Creative Labs is… back? It looks like the legendary sound card company is preparing to launch a Kickstarter campaign for… something. The description made available so far is incredibly vague: "Sound Blaster RE:Imagine is built for creators, gamers, audiophiles, and tinkerers. It's a bold reimagining of a classic. Designed to adapt, expand, and evolve with you." It's hard to imagine what any of this could be as sound cards are no longer a key separate component of PCs like they were when Creative was powering Wing Commander II's speech accessory pack.
What is interesting, though, is that they are using the original Wing Commander in their ad campaign. A BlueSky post provided a screenshot from an email promoting the project that features a screenshot directly from the Enyo System:

The Koa e Ko’ia is an epic endurance race that’s wildly popular among the Xi’an. Although the race has been contested in various systems across the Xi’an Empire for centuries, it only recently came to Human attention when competitors appeared in the former Perry Line system of Hadur. …While Mass Effect games looked to have been left in the dark over the last few years, it looks like BioWare was actually working to reenergize the sci-fi RPG series in a huge way. Not only is a new Liara-inclusive sequel game currently on the horizon, but the original trilogy is getting the remastered treatment with the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition, collecting all three games and DLC, and giving them a stunning modern visual and gameplay overhaul.
BioWare recently offered quite a few details about the many present changes in the remaster, but the developer has now let pictures do the talking with the debut on an all-new comparison trailer. As seen below, the trilogy’s sprawling alien worlds now sport an impressive level of added detail, with updated lighting and particle effects for environments, as well as more realistic skin rendering and crispier 3D models for in-game characters.

It is safe to say that 2020 was a very turbulent year, sometimes with some unpleasant surprises waiting around the corner.We are living in a difficult time and adapting to new situations sometimes can be challenging.The plans we had for Crossfire in 2020 were thrown overboard and got replaced by necessary structural changes that helped us to create a future proof foundation for Crossfire.

…KrisV noticed that the popular LGR video game Youtube channel frequently provides a glimpse at a retro poster that seems to sport a Vampire from Wing Commander Prophecy. Upon closer investigation, apparently a lot of people ask about that art, and so there's a whole video covering it! It turns out to not actually be a proper poster, but rather, a spread from the February 1998 issue of Next Generation magazine. One side has a table of dozens of new 3Dfx-enabled games while the reverse is a trendy collage with some of the hottest stars to be enhanced by the Voodoo chipset. This includes a nice Vampire nose and nacelle! There are also a handful of Prophecy screenshots intermixed throughout as well. We get a close look at the Midway's bridge as well as a Panther trailing a Hydra cruiser in these. Check out the full video below!

Docteur J from Oldies Games TV is back with a new Wing Commander series. He's covered a number of Wing Commander games on his French YouTube channel over the years, and now it's time for a playthrough of Wing Commander 3. As a special bonus, he's manually splicing in the dramatically enhanced HD videos from ODVS so everything is super sharp. When he started all of this, the audience was mostly limited to French speakers, but YouTube's auto translate feature opens the world up to everyone. Hit the closed captions icon in the bottom and the gear logo for your preferred language. If you're only used to hearing Wing Commander in just one language, it can be a whole new experience to hear a new dub!
