Every week, designers, engineers and other developers from our five offices around the world answer backer questions submitted on SPECTRUM and voted on by YOU. This week, we address questions regarding the use of escape pods and get the final answer about “Agent Smithing” in the persistent universe.

You can submit your questions for consideration in future episodes of Calling All Devs here.

One of our favorite things to come out of the internet this past year has been the fantastic Shield of Tomorrow, the actual-play show run by Eric Campbell on Geek and Sundry’s Twitch Channel and Alpha. The crew of the Sally Ride, Aliza Pearl, Bonnie Gordon, Hector Navarro, Sam de Leve, Amy Dallen and Gina DeVivo, beamed themselves onto our computer screens each week with new tales of the Federation facing against the unknown. It even inspired some of the STO developers to do their own tabletop live stream. Sadly, Shield of Tomorrow's initial run is coming to an end, and while you won’t have to miss the incredible cast on the screen (they’ll still be around in a brand new show), we couldn’t let Shield of Tomorrow pass into internet history without our own little memorial. Starting July 13th, the Sally Ride will hanging out in Sector Space in Star Trek Online…somewhere. We’re not going

I’ve been looking at the multi-game guide books that were popular in the mid-90s. This one has chapters on Wing Commander III and IV... but the very simple walkthrough only covers seven missions of the latter. These seem kind of silly today, but before the internet books like these were a neat way to find out about the games available for your system. They’re as much wishbook as they are hint book!

multigame_books1t.jpgmultigame_books2t.jpgmultigame_books3t.jpgPrima updated this huge book of PlayStation game guides annually for years. Here’s WC3 and 4 still included the 2000 version!

Guys – as an avid Mass Effect fan, I would absolutely be doing my gaming heritage an injustice if I didn’t talk about the recent Mars findings by NASA. When in doubt, go Paragon. But seriously, NASA’s rover Curiosity found some interesting things on its latest expedition on the Red Planet and if video games have taught us anything, this could be really cool – or end in a Reaper invasion. There really is no in-between.

According to the official NASA report, their rover “found new evidence preserved in rocks on Mars that suggests the planet could have supported ancient life, as well as new evidence in the Martian atmosphere that relates to the search for current life on the Red Planet. While not necessarily evidence of life itself, these findings are a good sign for future missions exploring the planet’s surface and subsurface.”

Storm Clouds Gather: Resolved an issue where audio would cut out in the upper floor section of Ore Processing. Turn the Tide: Resolved an issue in Act 3 where if the player closed a dialogue window then defeated all enemies, progress would be blocked. Stranded in Space: Resolved an issue which blocked Jem’Hadar captains from entering the first map to this episode. Gamma Recruit Jem’Hadar which have chosen the Klingon Faction can now complete Duty Officer Gamma Recruit Tasks. Cover Shields now delete themselves on Social Zones. GOG.com has kicked off their summer sale and the Wing Commander series is on the list. The entire franchise is now 70-72% off, which ties the best deals we've seen in the past year. Each individual title is down to $1.79 and the whole package of all DOS & Windows games is just $13.42. Boxed games might be nice for the collection, but digital copies are really quick and easy to download and play. These also make great gifts!
