…Hello Everyone!
We hope you have been enjoying the most recent additions to the game with last week’s large update! The team here are concentrating hard on the upcoming features, but we continue to balance this with time dedicated to optimisation and ironing out issues that are important to players and to us.
This week’s update addresses a few high priority issues and introduces the Space Anomaly’s next community research mission!
Community Research Update
Specialist Polo’s research has taken a new direction this week, after their analysis of the Sentinel data yielded some surprising results. The Sentinels are tracking other anomalous signals, signals currently unknown to Nada and Polo.
They have pinpointed the location of what appears to be the echo of another Traveller-Entity. The Anomaly itself cannot travel to this location, for fear of further alerting the Sentinels. Polo asks for help in finding this

…We are sad to report that Wing Commander author Christopher Stasheff passed away June 10, 2018 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease; he was 74. Mr. Stasheff was an extremely talented writer and anthologist known for blending science fiction, fantasy and humor together. He was responsible for several long-running, well known novel series including Warlock of Gramayre, Wizard in Rhyme, Rogue Wizard and Starship Troupers. You can read his complete obituary here.
Mr. Stasheff is best known to Wing Commander fans as the author of Milk Run, the novella which precedes (and prologues) Dr. William Forstchen's End Run in the book of the same name. He was brought in to work on the series by frequent collaborator Bill Fawcett as part of a 'soft reboot' that took it in a harder military science fiction direction. Milk Run is a joy to read as it both captured the contemporary spirit of the Wing Commander

…Writer’s Note: Phantom Bounty: Part One was published originally in Jump Point 3.1.
Two hundred and sixty-five days. That’s how long they’d been hunting the Phantom. It seemed like they’d entered a thousand of these tiny, dark, hole-in-the-wall taverns, seeking leads from shifty informants, always just too far behind. Mila leaned against the metal prefab wall and tried to breathe through her mouth, but the scent of stale alcohol and vomit flooded her nostrils anyway.
Rhys stood at the bar, towering above the other patrons, his broad back all she could see as he haggled with the owner for information, likely bribing away the last of their meager credits. Her stomach churned just watching him. They had to be close this time. Because if they didn’t land that massive bounty soon, they wouldn’t be able to afford so much as a mug of this dive’s swill.
Mila ran a hand through her straight brown hair, and a

…UnnamedCharacterhas achieved another very cool technological milestone in the digital exploration of Wing Commander 1. Kilrathi Saga introduced invisible cockpits to the original games, but they were not particularly smooth implementations. Unnamed's advancements allow for properly overlays so that indicator labels are retained and the radar isn't transparent to the background. Compare the KS versions up top to the enhanced versions below! Along the way, he encountered some targeting issues due to where the game wanted to put the reticle, but those have already been
resolvedas well.
The Kilrathi Saga version of the game provides the option to remove the cockpit. This is done by simply not displaying the cockpit image, but it does have some negative side effects: all labels are missing, the radar is transparent, and there is no location highlighting on the radar sections when taking a hit.We can

…I’m not going to lie to you…this war is not going well for the Federation. Every day, the Klingons gain ground, and every day, we fall a little further back. Well, not today. Today, we stand, together, as Starfleet. Today, we prove that our ideals can withstand a hostile invasion force. I’m honored to serve with each and every one of you. Go out there and make me proud. You were just a cadet, stepping out into the cosmos for the first time, when the Klingon War broke out. Now it’s come home. In “Downfall,” the second episode of Age of Discovery, you’ll find yourself standing in defense of Starbase One, in what could be her final battle. Enemies, including Ju’la herself, are going to attempt to take this last bastion of defense for themselves. Only you can stop them. Downfall is the second episode available to Discovery-era Captains after completing the tutorial. It will also be

…Hello everyone,
Last week on Around the Verse we announced that Object Container Streaming and 3.3 were split into multiple development branches, and that we’ll deliver Alpha 3.3 for all on October 10, with OCS coming with a later patch currently titled 3.3.5. The roadmap update made last Friday now also reflects those changes and displays a 3.3.5 column featuring OCS and its dependent cards.
Also last week, Bounty Hunters rallied across the ‘verse to take down criminal scum, highlighting their victories in a screenshot contest on Twitter. Within 24 hours we received over 500 entries, showcasing that the hunt was definitely on. A big thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our winning entries.
Alongside the screenshot contest, we also brought back a handful of the verse’s most devastating brawlers, available for all your mercenary needs. As a reminder, this promotion

…New Episode - Secrets This is Admiral Kensington. I have a special assignment for you. A Klingon raiding party attacked one of our science stations near the Delta Volanis Cluster. Please assist them in any way you can. A Klingon raiding party attacked a Starfleet research facility near the Delta Volanis Cluster, but left survivors and took nothing. The station is damaged, however, and the staff could use your help to resume normal operations. Be on your guard – this could be a Klingon ruse. Be ready for anything. If things get desperate, one of Starfleet’s top-secret vessels is in the area and can assist if necessary. Get on this as soon as you can – Starfleet Command needs to know what the Klingons are up to out there. Secrets is the first episode available to Discovery-era Captains after completing the tutorial. It will also be available to 2409 and TOS-era Captains as a historical

…Popular video blogger
Spoonyrecently dedicated his live stream gaming show to Wing Commander 3. He's dabbled in Wing Commander stuff over the years, so it's interesting to see his take here. Perhaps even more interesting are the live reactions from the audience. It's a credit to WC3's engaging FMV and spaceflight engine that it still holds up remarkably well nearly 25 years later. This also speaks to the pace of advancement in the early '90s. This came just a few years after WC1&2, yet it's often a significantly easier point of entry to the series due to how much more it resembles a modern game.
We can also help clarify one mystery in the vid. At 1:30:30 he encounters a 'bug' where he appears to be zooming away from his target backwards. It looks like what happened was that he accidentally engaged auto slide (with the / key), which temporarily disables the atmospheric flight style and throws

It's been a while since the GOG's last major sale, but they're holding an EA-specific this weekend. Wing Commander once again clocks in at about 70% off, but there are a few Origin games that come in even higher. The Crusader and Ultima games are 80% off, so it's a good time to round out your collection!
