Launcher Updater Issues

  • Followed the Crossfire Installation Guide to the letter, but when i run the Freelancer.exe (with the mod activated in the FLMM) the LauncherUpdater tries to read the update information then closes everything and retries, repeatedly.

    I've attached a screen shot of what comes up...

  • ... perhaps try to remove the write protections again
    ... check if there are some quarantined files in your AV/Security-programm
    ... tried to run the Freelancer.exe not from the desktop icon but from within the installation folder ? (as administrator) ?

    I've tried all of these, even disabled my AV and still the same results.

  • AFAIK, modern decent AVs have no problems with CF so i really don't understand why i should "Disable Firewall, AV.." i have Avira running and it doesnt do anything to CF and the game works fine with it, not sure what you guys install.

    As for the problem for some reason the launcher is stuck in a loop. Based on my experience with similar problems with the launcher you may consider this:

    -Check the log if it says anything
    -Replace the Freelancer.exe and cfwd.exe with the one from the FLMM Folder, so you have that launcher executable that is shipped with the initial CF installation (solved a lot of launcher problems in my cases)
    -Restart PC and Router
    -It is possible that the server cannot be reached when you attempted to play
    -Did FLMM gave any errors when it was applying the mod?
    -Make sure that .NET (4.0 or 4.5)is correctly installed (should be on most cases, but you any never know)

  • Thanks for the advice I'm gonna try all of these. The FLMM didn't give me any errors when activating the mod. How do you check the log?

    BTW i use Avast as my AV and it did nothing throughout the whole installation process, I only temporarily disabled it to confirm that it was not the problem.

    Update* - My FLMM Folder doesn't have the Freelancer.exe, or cfwd.exe files.

  • If is correct info I have then Avast like block files from EXE2 directory, this folder is created by launcher and contain game files during play ... maybe try add this folder durectly into exceptions can help.

    @Vulkrinshul there are some AVs which have serious issues with CF maybe bcs need much more strictly tell "don't touch"

    I tried this and it still didn't work.

    With some clever timing while this loop ran i managed to save a log file that said...

    00:32:54.144 --> [i]:Launcher is updated...
    00:32:55.345 --> [i]:LauncherUpdater connected

  • Hmm, are you using launcher coming with mod installation file?

    This is the location of the original files:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\Freelancer 2 - Crossfire\EXE

  • If are missing these files, something (very likely AV) deleted or quarantined them. Both .exe which was mentioned should be in game folder \Freelancer\EXE and also in \FLMM\mods\Freelancer 2 - Crossfire\EXE . It is only my guess, but there could be AV in action during mod download or when was mod installed. And if is known that there are for sure missing 2files, there is very good chance that is missing more files. I attached CF2.0 folder details from my PC, there should be the same amount of files/folders.

    This was really helpful. I didn't know where the original files were missed the Freelancer2 Folder until now.
    The the launcher works now, thanks everyone!!!!!!!

    Update* Now i have another problem, but it's not for this thread! Looks like deactivating the mod to make changes breaks the mod completely.
