just remember to put spoiler tags before anything spoilery...

i have to play through the game again since my completed save games got lost...

so your advertising a different game on a forum for completely different genre of games, one of which is dying right underneath our feet...

but i will admit APB Reloaded almost sparked my interest a while back...

granted Freelancer is an old game, but i know of at least 1 other game that's 8 years old (came out in 2004, FL came in 2003) still has multiple *populated* servers up (some reach 75/100 plater) and communities and mods and tournaments and people still play on a decently consistent basis with real life problems going on

this is the game i left CF to play in 2009...being Joint Operations and more specifically the International Conflict Mod and tournament. i left that community because some act like children when they aren't Rambo-ing and doing their own thing during battleday on Sunday (it's an FPS)...and it was boring having the opportunity to cause mass chaos and get in the top 3 on the scoreboard with a hydra bird only to be forced into being a flare bitch...

the lesson being is that even old games like Joint Operations, Quake 3, Command and Conquer (Generals and newer) Freelancer STILL has a player base and does whatever that community can to keep it alive. i remember the HUGE movement that the entire Freelancer Community to stop the FL Global Server List from shutting down, and when it did, within months was there a bootleg or work around or something for the global server list. if players lost interest when M$ did, most of the mods and communities wouldn't be here today

Clans don't make the server, People make the server. clans make it more fun

@ Spock: Michael has been around a long ass time. Just because he's not around doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about. he currently has some real life issues and unfortunately only has time to be active on the forums. that's where a lot of clan members are these days, taking care of business and the unfortunate consequences due to the fact people have lives outside of a video game is affecting the server.

now i would love to initiate RP and acting out of the blue, however i would prefer not having to explain the entire process (for my clan at least) to a freelancer as it takes more time and effort to explain that to just "go along with it" and have people readily recognize "oh, this guy is acting and role playing, maybe i could join in"

Riebens has fantastic ideas for the combat part of clan role play. i'm trying to focus on the interaction Role Play. to explain via example, i could be approched by another one of my clan and in a completely make believe situation, a solar storm flared in Sovetskaya, knocking out communication between the Sirius and Altair Sectors and we have to make a trip to Sovetskaya and restore power. i'm SURE most of you played make believe as a child...

Clan RP is not purely combat and diplomacy. it keeps the server running and makes playing crossfire WAY more fun that sitting in X watching people go at it for no apparent reason...

there are issues with integrated graphics chips with a bunch of games. some make special patches for them or they don't support Intel graphics chips at all. do you have a dedicated graphics lying around somewhere that you can try?

before buying a new PC altogether, go to your local electronics Retail (Best Buy, Microcenter, Fry's Electronics) and find a card for your computer. make sure you know what slot is on your motherboard (PCI-E X16 is the most common these days) as well as having the other specs fulfilled (beyond minimum PSU wattage, enough room in your case, enough RAM etc...)

not sure how much gaming you'd do otherwise, but if your solely playing Crossfire more than anything, you're best bet for a cheapy yet powerhouse card is probably a 6xxx Series Radeon HD or 5xx Series Geforce (ATI and Nvidia respectively). i can't stress enough to make sure it's important you know what your computer is capable of handling. my Radeon HD 6670 is good because it doesn't require external power (6 or 8-pin Molex), runs a bunch of current games on max (BF3, Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed the Run...) and it cost me around $100.

so before replacing the entire thing, fill out Morten's list of questions, go through that list of troubleshooting on the Microsoft KBase, then PM me your Team Viewer ID and password. i will gladly look into it for you

When you're a clan member, you get the ability to do stuff freelancers may not. for example CFPD is allowed to open fire on LP just because CFPD is police and LP is pirate. what's more fun than lighting another player up without warning. it's a cheap shot, and you have to live the consequences (especially if they're better at pvp than you)

The only bad side i can think of to joining a clan is the potential for drama amongst other clans and within your clan. Ozy, Kermit/Daywalker and Gunny used to go at it all the time. sometimes if it's bad enough, the Clan can be banned (see exhibit PX).

but if you don't think about it and keep your nose clean and out of peoples business, than being in a clan is MUCH more enjoyable than wandering around Sirius doing nothing....

here's a list of active server clans (the one's that are on the most from what i can tell)
    SIlver Arrows - Mercenary RP
Focks Industries - Technically Mercenary RP
    Independent Operators Consortium - Smuggler
    TGT - Smuggler
    Lost Prophets - Pirate

I probably missed some, but those are what i see on the most. if you wanna help the server get RP back on it's feet, i recommend Focks Industries. not just because it's mine, but because Role Play is the main focus and not terrorizing other clans or something. i do also recommend you ask around to see what else is available. choose one that you will be happy with. dual clanning is not allowed and it's rude when a player clan hops....

    Weekly Report 6172012

Shipping Report: Due to the termination of 76 employees, there were a lot of delays within all areas of the department. Because of this and FI's Policy, the income from customer sales fell. Thankfully, the remaining 424 employees were able to keep the department on it's feet and running smoothly and effectively through all the delays. Weekly Goals are needing to be reached. Hopefully the new hires in freight will help meet or exceed these goals.

Employee Update: A Mandatory Meeting will be held for the entire Freight and Transport department. Date and details will be sent via neural net. New Hires in all Departments are expected to be at the orientation prior to reporting to their immediate supervisor. Members of the Security and Admin Department will receive a $1,000 Bonus for keeping an average rating of 9 or higher. The Hiring process will begin next week. Employee's who refer friends and family will receive a $100 Bonus and an entry to the End of the Month Raffle per candidate referred and hired. This Month, the winner will win 2 front row tickets and a meet and greet to an upcoming Manhattan Mauler's sports event of their choice. The more people you refer, the greater your chances of winning. Go Maulers!

Employee of the Month: Vanessa Charlton - Vanessa is a IT Admin and Technician who works within the Freight department making sure all the computers are running smoothly. Due the amount of discharges within the last week, Vanessa stepped up her role by using her tablet to manage 4 workstations for 12 hours a day, all last week. Ms Charlton is a University of Denver graduate with a masters in Information Technology. She was hired 3 years ago as a test technician to ensure the systems that calculate docking and mooring trajectories to incoming freighters and transports waiting dock are working and calibrated properly. Because of her hard work last week, Ms Charlton is rewarded with Employee of the Month and a $100 gift card to Siriusbucks Coffee. Remember, Employee of the Months are chosen at the end of the 3rd week every month.

Alienware will crap out on your between 6 months to a year. ever since Dell bought it, it became shite

your better off building it from scratch. it's cheaper, you know what your getting and there is more satisfaction when you say "Yeah...that's my new computer...."

and it makes no sense to buy a 1500 dollar computer only to pay 200-300 more for the upgrades (bulk being the new graphics card...

why pay someone do build you a computer when you can do it yourself...it isn't terribly hard (heck i'll teach you). plus because it's essentially a fancy OEM Dell, you get all sorts of bloatware, limitations on the CPU and other BS not needed. and a compact case will fry that computer quicker than something really really fast. if you're doing that, get liquid cooling (or a bigger case) the compact cases won't have room for too many upgrades. the 7870 is a physically big card from the manufacturer 9/10 times. if it's from dell, and in a small case, you wont get to utilize the full extent of the 7870. even if you manage to jam it in there, the lack of circulation and heat from due to case limitations will cook your $200 graphics card. small profile = less performance = less enjoyable gameplay and shorter computer lifespan...

you'll be pay up to $500 less if you build it yourself...

Focks Industries (my new Mercenary-based clan/Corporation) is now hiring for all positions! positions include, but not limited to:

    - Storage Manager
    - Security Detail
    - IT Manager (boy have i got role play ideas as this list comes to fruition)
    - Exploration Guides
    - Talent Recruiter/Hiring Manager
    - Information Agents
    - Assisstant to Mr. Focks (that being me...)

a little history on Focks Industries (because i dont know the date for the game, it's WAY easier if i just use the present date)

Focks Industries was formed from 3 separate organizations all created by Cantana 'Portalearth' Focks: Portalearth's Escort Services, Cantana's Whore Emporium and The Sirius Information Network or SIN for short. on June 21st, 2012, Mr. Focks decided to merge the companies together and form Focks Industries. FI entertains the Mercenary trade, commercial and private trade companies, Gentlemans Resorts filled with pretty ladies and unfathomable amounts of alcoholic beverages and attractive women and a more underground, yet publicly available resource known as the Sirius Information Network. Information wanted is information needed....for the right price.

so i am needing people to join my clan. dedicated people who are willing to run things in case of my absence (these days lack of internet). please forward you're application to Portalearth's Private Message inbox on the SWAT forums

Name(fictional first and last or ingame name):
    Country and Time Zone:
    Position Desired:
Experience in desired position(past clans, managing personal FLIDs and characters and for how long):
Knowledge of CF1.9, Choose one: a little/a lot/been playing Crossfire before time existed
Effort and dedication willing to Commit (the more you put in, the better the server benefits):

Focks Industries thanks you for your time and we hope to see a flood of applications (in a job market like this i should have a few PMs next time i get on

OORP: it's a long shot i know and the overall RP is a bit unconventional. i have so many ideas i can use to make this server fun again. i just need people willing to put what time they can...

Mission Statement: "To start friendly role play based fun on the Freelancer Crossfire 1.9 server in order to gain a bigger player base within the community, to raise awareness that no rp = no server = upset Crossfire Community and finally to make Crossfire the #1 server to play in all of Freelancer's communities"

If even Crysis started to grow up,

i dont think that's possible in this dimension...

however this will give the CF Community (what's left of it) to do mass amounts of advertising from Freelancer Facebook pages to news articles on ModDB and other random gaming websites that might humor us and let us post an article about an 8 year old game with a super badass mod *cough* Crossfire *Cough*

i say take the opportunity to grab as many former Disco Players as possible (some came from CF so those'd be easier i suppose) through as many internet media outlets as possible (Youtube, facebook, twitter, Gaming news etc etc..)

my theory on the gaming websites (IGN, Gamespot ModDB) is that if we convice that website that this continually super awesome game is dying and the members of the FL community and it's Mod fanbase (all 400 million gajillion of us) want to keep this game alive that maybe they could help with promotion via facebook ads or youtube ads or whatever. granted the forums need as much attention as the server, it is theoretically possible to revive this game to 50 players or more on a given day...just need tons of perseverance, dedication and hours to put in. just keep in mind i'm not volunteering for this soley as i am not at my computer all day nor do i have the patience to undertake such a task alone...a team would be nice i think....

and as an unrelated side note: can an engine like Unity be used to make a community made Freelancer 2? utilize DX10 and other fancy stuff making it as compatible as FL1 does today? i don't know a whole heck of a lot about it, and an engine like the Unreal one might be too...inappropriate for a space-combat simulator.

regardless, maybe a meeting between server admins of all forms of Freelancer needs to happen so EVERYONE knows how bad it's getting. 5 servers in 9 months? makes me vomit...

oh i would love to be on more. if i wasn't on a cell phone connection that got throttled after 5 gigabytes of use that is. it plays find when i'm not throttled, but too much youtube likes to eat bandwith like Cookie Monster and his horrible addiction to cookies...

me? here's what i've been doing...

i started an escort service for traders explorers and those who need extra muscle for whatever they'd like. it's integrated with my new found Entrepreneurial mercenary Role play i picked up. not only do i provide that service, but i also run Cantana's Whore Emporium as well as the Sirius Information Network (think Shadow Broker from Mass Effect...just not so....secretive)

if you'd like, i can direct you to the Whore Emporium or the SIN HQ on Planet Murmansk, Sovetskaya where my one of contacts can give you any information you'd like (for the right price...) Tell them Portal sent ya and they should be able to help you :D

OORP: for the record for the general SWAT and Crossfire Community. the game is WAY more fun when people get imaginative with RP such as i do. I think I can help stir the pot Shock...

This ad was brought to you in part by Cantana's Whore Emporium: We got every make and model

    Already working on that.

but only 2/9 freelancer is not a merc or pirate so they are rare to find....but i have noted some names and will work on it.

i said what i said with the intentions they'd say "wow, that looked like fun! i wanna join!"

playing Crossfire stoned isn't as fun as playing Need for Speed: The Run or Battlefield 3 stoned as one would might think

tbh, i'm not sure what to think. maybe Alex Grey (the guy who draws the album cover's for Tool) saw the album cover for Fragile by Yes....

    and he said

was trying to add this video , whic would explain it but sth doesnt seem to work

    Don't Legalize Weed!
    - YouTube

let me clarify something i stated in the very first post of this thread...

    Quote

it's also a very controversial subject (in all of it's fact or fictional topics) i want to keep this a place where people who use marijuana medicinal and recreational can convene

for those who aren't really sure what that means:

i didn't want to argue the moral/legal/medical/religious or any other controversial side of a naturally growing plant!!!1!!1!

deatheater, since you're kinda clueless on why it's illegal pretty much everywhere, i'll simply direct you to this decently educational, questionably unbiased documentary (and anyone else who are confused about various myths about Marijuana) as for the myths you mentioned: the short term memory loss is temporary. they're part of what's called "Stoner Moments." they can be a lot of fun. Stoner moment's include temporary short term memory loss, 5 minute tangents about irrelevant, random-ass things that are can be entertaining to both the stoned and the not stoned. hell when i'm high, i can make people laugh. i'm also an excellent troll given the proper circumstance (mostly through sarcastic, ignorant, rhetorical statements) Stoner moment's shouldn't be confused with ADD moments because the difference is- oh hey, Newegg is having a sale *browses newegg for the next hour*

yes....i did just do that ^^

    Grass: The History of Marijuana
    gras sthe history of marijuana.

if your country doesn't allow it, Google is your friend. the video explains how Marijuana came to the US, how popular culture aided in the War on Drugs from the 1920's all the way to today, clearing up myths like how it "kills brain cells" or "it can turn you into a rebel" (gotta love the 50's, 60's and 70's right?) and how Marijuana's medicinal properties aid in treating and sometimes curing things like certains kinds of cancer, AIDS/HIV, Multiplesclerosis (MS) and a number of other things

Harry Anslinger REALLY knows how to get society to hate something so very harmless....

Lonewolf, because kids are taught in school that weed does x, y, z things that can harm your life. it's not a gateway drug. i know plenty of people who went from weed, to much harder drugs and BACK to weed because they didn't get the same enjoyment marijuana did for them. i for one am content with the vast amounts of different and unique strains of weed (from shitty mexican shwag to top shelf $30/gram hybrids to the god knows how many versions of Kush and Haze there are in the world) and therefore have no reason do to anything harder. i place important things before buying a 20 bag ($20 worth of weed) such as bills, rent, gas for my car and so forth. anything left over goes under my mattress. i didn't buy more than 2-3 times a month (generally because i got an 1/8th (roughly 3.5 gram) at a time. priorities...i has them.

alcohol, cigarettes, meth, coke, heroin, ecstasy, acid and really any drug cooked in a kitchen is bad. sure it makes you feel good, but the destructive consequences are much more severe (i for one would not suck dick for coke. hell i wouldn't suck dick for weed...but maybe for a Klondike bar......not)

people in positions of power (senator's, congressmen, the president) all grew up when getting caught smoking dope got you 10 years in federal prison. now the feds don't persecute those living in MMJ regulated states (i.e. Colorado, California, Oregon etc...) if i got caught with less than an ounce (28 ish grams) i wouldn't get in anymore trouble than a $25 fine i can *mail* in, and showing up dirty on a piss test that can be circumvented in a number of ways. not smoking being the best bet...unless you hax and you get a bottle full of clean urine you nuke in the microwave and bring to the UA test (make sure they aren't looking though ;))

    *rageface* Obama Kicks Door Open
    - YouTube

only thing negative about weed is it gives you mad munchies...anyone who's ever smoked will tell you no one has died from smoking weed...he's probably sleeping if anything....THC smoke doesn't kill brain cells...the lack of oxygen, however, does

and the point of this thread being to congregate stories and tips, my favorite type of music to get stoned to consists of dubstep, down tempo/ambient, desert rock, rock and metal (and various sub genre's, progressive jazz, and Tech N9ne

Please leave the hateriffic comments at the door. shut up, sit back, and read about stoners convening over the internet :)
