you can not see the map in game, as long as you havent been there.
each system you explore/discover will appear in your nav map (ingame)
so will the whole map of altair, as soon as you discover where to go to reach it.

follow tips, hints and clues, you can get at bars or from other players (in case you are playing multiplayer) so you will find altair and also have the map of it pretty soon. (unless you prefer to get killed before you even saw those places) ;)

    hi mmartina

The nav map you have displays only the stations, bases, jumpgates/-holes you have already discovered. Which means, as more you fly around, as more you will discover.
Everyy new area you explore will be 'saved' in your nav map

In the beginning you will only see the sirius sector, but only as several dots (systems) on the screen (maybe named). You might experience that if you click on one of those systems, that you will only see an empty map.
As soon as you enter a new system it shows you the Trade lanes (but no names) you will have to use those first in order to get the names and their destination, written down on your map.

    IE:
you start out in NY. you launch and then open your map. the only thing you see is several tradelanes all around the system of NY but no names or stations, exept the planet manhatten and maybe those of trenton outpost and newark station (which are right next to the planet, you launched from) thats because of your visible range (so you have 'discovered' those places already)

discover and survive and you will get a pretty filled nav map.

I hope this helped you a bit.

    have fun.

it took you quite a while to realize that Spock :)

I almost killed my store several days ago. Would have been quite funny seeing me biting into my keyboard, when I would have realized that I just destroyed my own collection of guns.
So the best way would be stay away from other players (and NPC's ofc) when you wanna be save.

There is no noob-protection anymore in NY. Which could also tempt people to go ahead for PVP within NY (which is still against the server rules)

@ the whiskey-monger ;) .. just go ahead and force another player within NY to attack you and you will see you can get destroyed easily :P

dudes.. I hope you realized, that you did reply to a thread which started in October 2009 (and also ended in October 2009)?!?!

Sometimes I would really appreciate it, if some Moderators would take care of those old threads and just close them. Or simply delete them, in case there are more than 1 thread about the same topic already written somewhere.
The forum would not be spammed by 'useless' threads and Michael would have way less opportunities to post a 'gratz', 'nice', 'some smiley's' or whatever, just to push his ammount of postings.

When I read the forum and see a topic which seems to be interesting (for what purpose ever) I click on it to read what the newest entry (which might help me in some ways) and then I have to discover it was just a 'comment which is not helping at all'

And Im sure Im not the only one here, thinking like that.

    thanks in advance

I want to know why you Remove the Blueprints why that was the best trade rout in the Game ! why u remove it?

dude.. I think you didn't really either read or hear anything about the crossfire mod
its known for its dynamic economy, which means goods on planet A which are for sale on day X, for a certain ammount of credits are NOT for sale on the next day on the same spot (when the dynamic economy is working) cause goods are 'moving'
they know you coming to buy them and sell them somewhere else and run as fast as possible to another station which YOU are supposed to find by yourself, in case you want to trade THIS particular good under whatever circumstances.

    coz i hate you

since you did make a complete char whipe with the release of 1.81, does it mean you hate us all ? .. lol

btw.. very good work. from staff-side
too less appreciation from players side
too much wanting, complaining and cursing from players side

    see you all in space

1 - the game get started

2 - files gets downloaded (new patches, updates or whatever, everytime you start the game new)

3 - you get the option to pick 'start multiplayer'

4 - you reach the main menu of the crossfire mod

5 - you continue to pick whatever you want 'singleplayer' - 'multiplayer' - 'options' - ...
    if choosing multiplayer

6 - you get asked and warned about risks and whatever 'continue' YES / NO

7 - you get asked what type of multiplayer you wanna play 'LAN' - 'INTERNET'

8 - you get to choose the server you want to connect to (in case you picked 'internet' in the previous step)

9 - you select the server and click 'connect to server' (or doubleclick on the wanted server)

    now comes my thought

isnt it possible to implement a file in that kind of package which gets downloaded everytime you start the game, which is unique (and a new one gets created everytime the server restarts/crashes by itself)
and gets sent to the client which is downloading those package (like a cheat protection)
and if the client has a different file already, the server refuses to let him connecting to begin with (this could prevent people from forcing the server to crash, because of NOT restarting the game after crash)
and then having this particular file getting deleted (client side) everytime when the game gets closed, so that spot for the file will be empty and when things get compared, no file will be detected, so the server 'knows' that this client did restart (and not just reconnecting) ???

    just an Idea I have..

it did tell me the same message too.

no 3D card detected - to continue might cause problems running the game (or somethign simila)
do you still want to continue?

    yes / no

[ ] do perform the test on every start (or something similar)

    -----
and I run a nVidia GeForce 9400GT (and I'm pretty sure, that is an 3D Card after all)
the mod is not set up on 'low lvl video cards' and still runs fine

depending on your graphic card I would say, try the option to continue, when you get asked and unhook the 'perform that test question' , run the game and if everything works fine.. enjoy the game.
if it does not work out well, then uninstall the game completely (including mod and game, the mod manager too, just to be safe) and reinstall step by step and pick the low-lvl-option.

if it does not work, (what I seriously doubt) then make sure you are using a video card (younger than made in 1995) ;)

No, it asks me everytime I modify a file name or something, if I agree on doing it, I have to press 3 tabels/windows to change a folder name !! it sucks. (on vista)

On XP, you say to do something, it does :P

how about changing 'user account control settings'? you can pick between 4 steps (from 'always notify me' down to 'never notify me') which would solve your problem with 'having to agree/confirm the changes you wanna make on your system (unless you dont know what you do, so you better don't chose the part 'never notify me')

I never have to confirm any changes or get some disturbing 'windows is gonna make a change on that or that, do you want to continue? YES/NO' popups

that you don't have to confirm changes you make on XP like you displaying it, might be because windows XP does not support the UACS, like WinVista or 7 do :P

actually I never experienced any freezing when I was at this weird looking ant. and even knocking it with my ship didnt make me freeze at all. I just got a graphical problem..
it was like when you enter Dervon and fly straight toward the planets: heading left you experience graphical problems.. heading right, everything is fine. an even flying all the way around (counter-clockwise) doesnt show any problems (exept those weird sounding robots), until you reach the 'left half' of the map.

    welcome back mate.

you are back home and my wife's cousin's husband just moved to louisiana recently and now he got his deployment order for afghanistan (for 1 year) they just got a baby (a few month ago) that sucks.

    see you in space

    Finaly :)

first of all THANK YOU OP for changing the selling price of the ancient guns.
Hopefully it will prevent players from going to Dervon just to collect those guns to sell them (and making millions that way)

now people might just go to Dervon to practice npc-fighting, fixing up the reputation with the Dom 'Kavash, or just for collecting some guns for their own use (to mount at their ships)

also should it fix the problem, players getting accused to be in Dervon, just for the purpose of money

after all, that little change might have a big effect according to the roleplaying :P

Traders - getting rich because of bying and selling goods
Pirates - getting killed, cause of trying to get the money from the traders
Coppers - getting killed, cause of trying to keep pie-rats from stealing the money from traders
Mercenaries - getting killed by trying to collect bounties (traders placed on pirates, for trying to steal their money, cops placed on others, for trying to steal or trying to smuggle or trying to avoid paying fine, pirates placed on cops, for killing them, or on traders, for not paying tax, or on other mercs, for killing or not paying tax, or what reason ever ^^)
Smugglers - getting rich cause of smuggling goods (if not getting caught by hired mercs, or cops)

    see you all in space.

    yes.

if you dont have the required passoword, then stay away from this server. thats the message I got too.

seems to be not done yet.
so we all can see the SERVER ONLINE. but NO ONE can enter it (unless they got the right password) ?(

well. If you're all about missiles.. yes. then you will just have 3 (or less) guns to use.
but remember.. the missiles need to HIT the target to have any effect :P otherwise you might spend more than you will earn with that mission ^^

just move all the time and dont try to face them directly. and also try to stay in a bit distance, since you might die faster if you are too close to them :)
