* Laughing * - That's funny. Can't judge as I have not seen it. Maybe the fighter is Sooo Good that they had to make some counter balance to it - otherwise everyone would get it - and that's the best they came up with - make it look ugly. Ha Ha.
For those players who have this ship - what's the matter with ya - don't you have any style? Maybe in the next version of the mod we can uglify it even more - give it crooked teeth and a bad hair cut, broken nose etc
I suppose the worst ship in the game in terms of stats should be a vision of loveliness - what would that be? The Anubis and that looks a lot like the Liberty Defender - can we give it a face lift?
I mean - when your knee deep against nomads or those evil Corsairs - you need to look your best - right?
-
The Xfire database says it is a light fighter - but you make more sense so I assume there is an error on the database. I am not sure how to access the infocard - is that what you get in game when you buy/sell equipment? ie a brief description and stats?
The creator of this mod should be congratulated as so far I can't see a huge difference between the VHFs - there is a lot of choice out there and no obvious best ship when I meet other players in space. The only diff seem to me more/less cargo/nano/agility. Hopefully the plus on one side was compensated with some negatives elsewhere.
As for the Kossac - has anyone flown it and has anything negative to say about it? Was it balanced like I say above or is it the best?
-
Drake is a light fighter (so of topic) but my fav fighter in the game. I amy try those ships as you suggest. Although I like armour and weapons class 10, I prefer the feeling? of flying with lighter fighters.
I am currently flying te shroud which I thought was a HVF but actually is a light fighter - 9700 ARMR, 6 Guns and 8/10 level guns. It flies pretty smooth and with lvl 10 armour and has pretty good defence.
I will look out for Komodo - if it is an update similar to Drake and better than Eagle - I will give it a spin. Never heard of Darconji - but will keep an eye out for it.
Thanks for advice.

What about the "I am Special" mission.
We ask an experienced pilot to travel from Manhattan to Xfire and all other pilots to stop him. There are many different routes in so somebody could get lucky and stop him entering - or the pilot could win.
When it's all over the person that stopped the Special One would not need a prize cos firing the Special One out of the sky should be reward ebough for his arrogance. Otherwise I would be happy to put like 2mill in the prize.
If the pilot gets into Xfire we don't need to give him anything as he always complains he never gets any credit. I would video the whole thing - if possible - for my Brother in Law cos he is as arrogant as the Special One.
PS I think I am okay posting this as the age group would be old enough not to idolise the Special One and off course this is a game and any resemblance to real life is just coincidence.

For Tassie
I will stay and enjoy it.
I know that some people do that. I try and put myself in their shoes. I kill a player it was easy. I kill him again. This time he runs and jumps to a new system. I follow him and kill him there as well.
Sorry mate - I don't get that last bit - but I stress I only wanted to tell a positive story about the Compassionate Freelancer - not a negative one. I did not expect AOD to get some stress over it - but maybe I was being naive. If my experience was totally negative and the guy did not help me and change everything I would not have posted my story.
I am off to buy a Drake and if I get killed with Class 10 this and that - so be it. I will have a better ship in reserve to pay them back.
-
In Vanilla I quite enjoyed the Eagle. In Xfire 1.57 I flew a black and red version that was very smooth. Recently I have tried the Sabre which was also enjoyable and smooth.
My favourite ship though is the Drake and now we have all those extra shield/hull/gun powers I wonder if the experienced users can advise whether a Drake with all the goodies will last in Altair and other nomad systems?
I may give it a try and see how long I can last.

Thanks for the warning about the two names.
My daughter showed an interest in the game after seeing I was stressed and asked to play. She is playing a UCA Angela of Death as I thought that would be fitting. NOT Angela though.
I did not mean for the actual Angel of Death to be driven from the game - was his behaviour the norm? I don't know but reading the reaction in the forum and in game it was not and I am glad about that.
I thought at the time that their behaviour was unfair but realised realistically (comparing our relevant ships and equipment) I was unlikely to do anything about it in space for a long time.
Now - where are those Nomad Scum?
-
I think we should close this thread as it has obviously taken a unexpected turning.
The Compassionate Freelancer has saved the day (he must be a really good guy but he tells me he has a nasty side) and I have just had a great experience with some nomads and stayed alive longer than I expected and only got out as the server went - if I respwan in there I will be in trouble.
There is more to this Mod than I suspected - one of my better choices I think.
-
Please forget it - don't take any action.
Out of a negative experienced came a silver lining.
Other people around are very helpful and I appreciate that.
Apollo was not too bad - Angel_of_Death I think is sadistic - maybe he was role playing?
I have been helped a lot and now have a better ship and equip - more than I asked for which was just advice and how to put a bounty on someone with my meager £2mill I had at the time.
Seriously - I don't what I would do if I saw Angel in space - but that's not my problem.
I just wanted to share with others - new and old my initial experience in the Xfire system - I am enjoying it now so I will stay around.
Best wishes

No problem friend. Thanks for your kind words.
TO correct a small error it was Angel_of_Death and not Nemeis who I have not met in space.
Like the rest of us I am here to enjoy the experience and possibly, like your clan, pay a small fee to say thanks to the fantastic admin people here and the other players for creating an excellent experience.
I am not out to create a problem. I played Elite on the BBC Micro many years ago and this game brings many of those memories back. I have met some others online and they have helped me out and I appreciate it. Although playing games on BBC, C64, Amiga and PC now, this server is the first time I have ever played any game online. I never got into that whole Quake/Doom frag thing or never played online with friends. (I think I tried playing Red Alert once though).
I was just giving my comments on my online experience which is still fresh.
Best wishes to UAC.
Now let me sort out that PayPal thing -
-
The main thing is that I am enjoying freelancer again and exploring and missioning with lawful agencies to get credits. Yeah I do look out for UAC ships and steer clear of them and therefore mainly spend my time on vanilla systems.
I know once you are out of New York you may be killed and I would accept that and start again. There is roleplaying and I know killing others is part of that - personally I think joining with others and forming partnerships is probably more satisfying rather than picking on the meek.
As for the Compassionate Freelancer - Just say the word and I will pay you back and help if required.
-
I was interesting in what you say - it seems like one of the goals of your clan is NOT to help new users but prey on them - I would respect those two more if we were close to be evenly matched.
Good luck.
-
You guys probably know him anyway as it looks like he has been around here for a time. Don't know about his past and I can only judge him by his actions as I have seen and been helped by him.

GET OUT OF CUSTODIAN NOW - I remember from playing last time. So, coming back to Freelancer and trading/missioning to get enough cash to buy a Sabre I thought I would travel to Xfire by a legal route. I would not go into any Clan system and the route started in Texas.
Now, I am an idiot, and I spent 3 hours getting from Dallas to Xfire, mainly because I spent a long time going around Midpoints Rift rather than to the centre.
I get to Xfire- what a relief - what joy in getting there on my own - what a sense of satisfaction. With increased confidence I begin to explore but suddenly hear the scream of guns against metal and realise I am under attack. I try to avoid him but he is too strong and fast and I die. Respawning in Xfire I come out and he kills me again, then again. One time I mange to get into one of the new systems and he follows me and kills me again. Next time I confront him and fire back - but he is stronger and faster than me - I die again.
Bitterly I ask him what he has against me - the mod is called Xfire, you get there and you die. He says that I am a new player, a nobody and that he kills me cos he can. He says I deserve to die cos I use Nanobots and I deserve to die. He will teach me how to fly properly.
Later that day I decide to build a better ship and skillls and meet this guy again and hopefully I would have a chance - I noted his name. I meet a wandering freelancer who politely asks me how I am doing and I share my sad story. I ask about how to get a bounty put on my murderer and confess my impotence - is this the Xfire community I heard about and enjoyed briefly once before?
The new chap is a Merc but shows me some compassion and gives me advice and points me in the direction where new equip can be found. I agree to meet him in Xfire later and make my way again to the scene of my earlier terrifying experience. Using the server stats I recognise my killer has a clan and that a group of them are spreading from the centre of Sirius like a disease - no doubt killing unsuspecting innocents.
Craziliy I begin suspecting the Compassionate Freelancer is setting me up - UAC pilots are everywhere and Apollo attacks me in Alaska for no reason - I ask him why and he says cos he can. I am a new player and no challenge to his enormous power - he can kill me easily.
It was not a trap and the Compassionate Freelancer helps me get stronger - but I won't prey on the weak and new. We want this community to grow and encourage people to enjoy playing online. Not to feel they are hunted.
My killer - let me tell you any new character I play will be called Angela of Death as a marker of what sort of cowardly scum we have on this server - that are out there for all new players as a warning.
The Compassionate Freelancer went away in the early hours - no doubt on his lonely quest to right wrongs and set a standard - I salute him but did not catch his name - but he acted like a King.

I think that even some of the Crossfire content is available in Single Player Campaign mode - you will need to play multiplayer to get access to all the ships etc.
In SP, I have been to some Crossfire systems but have not been able to buy Crossfire ships due to the level requirements. I have been to Custodian? Hyperion? and Sol but have not been able to enter other Crossfire Systems in SP - I either get a 'entry denied' message or the system crashes.
I am okay with this - I am sure it was done to balance the game correctly and some of the new ships are very powerfull. And I have enjoyed played SP again with the additional Crossfire content such as selling prisoners and buying extra energy for my guns.
Nevertheless I am looking for another Mod that allows you more choice in SP - anyone recommend Big Daddy universe?
-
Sorry Jtak, maybe I got the names confused.
You may have been the person that pointed me towards Crossfire when I could not find it after weeks of playing - so apologies.
So who was it - I think it was a clan member - BG something?
Anyway, its water under the bridge - I aim to get online again and build a formidable character so when that sneaky coward owns up to his crime I will be able to take care of him.
Jtak - can you advise on the question I asked about accessing the news ships in single player?
-
Just to say thanks to the admin and users of Crossfire.
So far it is a great way to extend Freelancer and my dreams of flying my own ship born on the BBC Micro computer so many years ago on Elite.
Although I was killed by one chap (Jtak, Ptak - you know who you are!) when I accidently bumped into him launching out of a dock in Colorado - other people have been friendly. (I respawned and tried killing him back but was no match for his ship and guns!!)
My points/ questions are (I have tried researching on the forums):
In Single Player Game will I ever be able to buy those new ships I think are set at level 32? I think I read somewhere you can't but could one of the veterans confirm? After you complete the single player campaign will the new ships be available? Are there any new ships accessible when playing the single player campaign?
Is it not possible to give a better explanation of what the new equipment items do? For example the 'More juice to the guns' is self explanatory (that cost be £1m but has meant I can fire the best weapons for my ship constantly) but the equipment that makes you lighter is mainly for very large ships and this is not clear - and then you panic when you cargo space reduces to 5! Are there other equipment out there that could use clearer details?
I am on my second version of Crossfire and I wonder if some of the locations for key equipment can be moved or randomised to help long term play as once you know where the best stuff is you may tend to follow the same path each time you play.
Otherwise - thanks for the experience.
I have been to Sol and heared that unbelievable sound track
I have been to planet crossfire
I have been threatened by groups to get out of their system now!
