Still no luck on Windows XP SP3. My last resort is to do a factory reset on the machine, get everything back up to date (windows updates, etc), and try a clean install on a clean machine. The only variable I haven't removed is the fact I downloaded the ZIP on Windows 10, extracted on Windows 10, and am trying to install that extraction on WIN XP. When I do my factory reset, I will download the ZIP on my WIN XP and extract there, using the default zip program instead of WinRAR or 7Zip. The whole process will take over a day, especially with windows updates... if you have any other suggestions for a truly clean install (besides the obvious) let me know!

If all else fails, I will just install 1.9 again, which did work on my WIN XP when I first joined here (I even got permission to upload partitions of the 1.9 download back then). I would really love to play your new SP campaign and finish it <3

Thanks for the continued support everyone!

I'm unzipping the official Crossfire20setup.zip with the "Unblock" option checked. Never saw that before. Once the install is complete, I'll check the file contents and sizes to match up with yours. Lastly, related to the crash after into videos, I did remove all game saves, the entire folder actually, so I'm more inclined to think it's related to the alleged installation corruption. Thanks for all the help, if I get it working, I'll write a WIN XP SP3 (for dummies) guide for you guys!

I love how you're always my greeter when I come back from MIA. I'll be in-game within a day or two, got a story to beat (original) then the files I was provided to fix an issue.

Exact same issue here mate. Running Windows XP SP3. Had a clean install on clean copy of FreeLancer, no errors, both Single Player and Multiplayer fail to update (as in nothing happens, no errors, no packet data or CPU usage). If I choose not to update, the game does not launch (singleplayer). Did some reading already, see the issue is somewhat known, already tried/checked the following:

    1) Re-launched launcher several times, restarted PC several times.
    2) I do have NetFrameWork 4.0, highest available on XP SP3.
    3) All other related drivers are up to date.

If anyone needs more specifics, please advise.

    Best Regards,

    Revan

    So, nearly 4 years later...

I am back yet again! With the anticipation of Star Citizen, I just can't keep myself out of space. I'm just about done beating through the original campaign on an un-modded FreeLancer, and will be joining the server again soon enough.

Previously had 1.9 running, I found out through the grape vine that 2.0 was released prematurely. I've run a few private servers over the years for various games, and know how quickly a database can corrupt. Glad you sorted past that.

I did successfully install 2.0 on a clean environment, having some issues launching. See my post in the appropriate section for troubleshooting. See you all in space!

    WB Revan :D

Thanks! I was actually in your clan, well signed up for it. I still have your HandBook printed out from that year, very well documented (which is why I never tossed it).

    Welcome back Revan.
You play Pirate (my guess) ?

I don't remember if I was a Pirate or not.

Give me about a week or so to power through the SP mode and I'll get myself acquainted on the MP server. On top of the holiday, I'm on bed rest all week due to Strep Throat. On top of that, there's over a foot of snow outside and it isn't stopping. Plenty of free time. And I told my staff to watch the server while I'm out sick :)

Hello everyone. First off, I'm glad to see this community still exists. I played nearly 3 years ago, and though my ventures were short lived, the memories transcended throughout the years that followed. As most hard core gamers do, I naturally found myself checking up on my old stomping grounds...Halo, MechWarrior, and FreeLancer (Microsoft's peak in my opinion).

I'm downloading again, and will be around on the server when I can, but plan to play through to SP once first. I also run a private server for MapleStory (don't laugh), and that takes up a lot of my time. Even if I'm not active here, I'd like to commend the dev team here for continuing this project. As a Java dev myself, I acknowledge your efforts, and you've taught an old dog a few new tricks in the cockpit ;)

We disabled his firewall completely, antivirus, and no other programs he has installed monitor, regulate, or allot any data packets. At first I told him to connect his computer directly into his Modem, instead of having it through a router...but his modem is a router, and his computer is directly hardlined to the modem so we can scratch that.

His internet provider or modem model may be limited as to the amount of data that can be sent through. For example, lets say CF is trying to use 3000 packets of data and his modem is only allocating 2500, and the connection times out. I really just don't know.

You could try the TCPOptimizer from SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads
Remember to keep registry backups for rollbacks.

    hope this helps

I will have him try this when he gets back on (he will probably read this asap). We really appreciate all the input guys. I spent all weekend uploading those files for another player instead of playing, but that won't stop me from trying to help another player connect either. I just want a hug <3

No, he did not. He is AFK for now. He did not ever get to create a character on Discovery or CF, so his account folder is empty. Sucks I just deleted mine when I should have remembered to back it up from helping him, but me starting over is unrelated.

Yeah, OP I appreciate you taking the time to download it and confirm it's stable, safe, and not malicious. I'm sure from time to time you've thought it would help a few people with downloading the client, and I hope we can get a few more people to join with more download options. Now I can finally get into space, jesus =P

I did use the search feature here to look through the forums, and looked through about 6 other servers forums (googled) and tried a lot of different solutions. Someone with networking experience will probably be able to figure this out. We spent over 2 hours this morning running through the list, fresh installs, resetting his router, literally everything we could think of. He is wired directly to his modem (which is also a wireless router), was the only person connected, I mean ask us (him) questions to get a specific answer for his scenario.

And we're on our way to being great friends through the struggle haha ;)

So our newest member Loogi (stolen from Discovery xD) is having an issue I remember running into a while back with windows XP, my router, firewall, antivirus, it's been a long morning.

He gets a message saying the "requested operation is taking longer than expected"

I've been on his computer using RDC and it isn't his firewall, we changed his antivirus, he isn't running any programs that would conflict or slow down his speed, and his modem is actually his router too. He is wired.

I remember with windows XP something about the game using an ipv6 instead of an ipv4, and the packets while trying to join the server are crazy.

If anyone has any suggestions please try to help us out here.

I'm almost done uploading, 3 parts left :) I've been dying to finish this and get back to CF. I need to get out of Sirus sector, get a few million credits, and would love a Battleship by the end of this week!

Yeah I'm happy with my choice in your clan. Again, once I finish uploading, I'll be dedicating my time to getting in with you guys officially, and hopefully find some new potential recruits along the way xD

Works for me on Google Chrome. I'm also running Peerblock and Spybot, which blocks a few billion IPs and sometimes disables forum codes, still no problems here.

I think it's a good idea, or at the very least have all the accounts linked as friends or something. I'm pretty good at advertising servers, I've even been thinking about suggestion a few sites, like Xtreme Top 100 and a few other MMORPGs.

I'll make a topic soon, but you can link a vote button every time someone clicks on the forum, so every member votes daily. When I was running my MS server, we rewarded players with money per vote. I don't know what database you use, like MYSQL, but for every vote (1 each 12 hours per IP address, or 2 votes per Account name/character name per day), but reward each vote with a point redeemable at an NPC for weapons, money, etc.

Yeah, I'll make a post with the full idea proposal.

Yes I found it. I misunderstood what you meant, and actually linked the external download. You want me to upload them from my computer to your website? If so I do not have a problem doing so, but will have to start over. I linked the first 10 parts, the shared media fire folder currently has 13 of the 19. I'm taking a break from uploading, I'm training for my new clan =D
