Drale, if you're getting harrased and you happen to see me online, let me know. I'll drop whatever I"m doing and happily help you explain ballistics to these guys.

There is a simple joy in shooting small ships with big torpedoes.
Again, Corbin hadn't been looking for trouble, but at least this time, it had nothing to do with his looks. No, it would seem that the Xenos that had started shooting at him had no concern for his face, other than whether or not it had a missile sticking out of it, and they were obviously pro-missile. This was, however, more of a relief to Corbin than a bother. He had just gotten a new ship, and a little stress-reduction-by-means-of-violence was rather welcome.
Especially when you were flying an armored bucket with nine cannons. He had bought drinks for every Blood Guard member in the bar when they let him purchase the Bullpup Mk III.
He had gotten into a rather heated, though friendly, discussion with a few other pilots over the virtues of mobility over offensive capability, and in many ways, they were right. He had no doubts that a ship with a faster turn speed and a thinner profile would trump other ships in many situations.
Then, he thought of hitting Edison Trent with nine cannons, and then landing a ship the size of a small gunboat on his still-twitching corpse.
It probably wasn't the most sound reason for purchasing a ship, but it sure did feel right. And honestly, the extra thruster port was welcome for when he wanted to get away very quickly, a situation he had seen come up more often. Programming the two co-pilot bots had been a bit of a chore, but he was starting to like having them around on the long trips. They always listened, they didn't talk back, and they didn't think he looked like Trent. This was marks in their favor in all departments.
They last of the squadron of fighters that attacked him detonated in a flower of shrapnel as the overly-large ordinence collided with him. As Corbin tractored in the escape pod and set in a course detour to the nearest prison, he briefly visualized Edison's face on each of the pilots in his cargo hold, and smiled a little.
Things might be looking up.

A lot of these are looking like the next ships I'm gonna try out. The redemption looks weird as anything. Kinda like a salt and pepper shaker set with wings.

...could we, somehow, get a press license in the game? From the eyes of a newcomer to the sector, a news crew seems to be about the only thing you guys are missing, and I know people would get a kick outta joining.
-
Oh, all three are forward arc. It has nine forward facing guns. is flipping happy.
-
Appreciate all the help guys. Have decided to go with the Billpup mk III, and already got permission from BG and purchased it. Love the thing, it's like the best-armed bathtub you can find.
Now, to hunt down some nomad cannons... -
Ok, Freelancer's Dom'Kavash Vs. Master of Orion 2's Anterans. Who would win and why. GO!
-
None of the questions were inane, and I'm just glad I was able to help. I'd say, "us freelancers have to stick together", but I think that's kinda what the IOC had in mind, and I don't wanna steal their shtick. But yeah, feel free to message or pm me anytime here or on server, I'll help whenever I can. Remember, though, this is still my first week on CF, where most of the guys here have been playing for years. No one has been impatient or rude to me yet, so don't be afraid to ask them anything.

Towbot, how many of the Bullpups turrets are capable of firing forward?
-
Ok, so, I have reached the point where I'm equipped well enough to make some money, and I'm looking to my first CF ship. I know later I will be able to change ships as the mood strikes me, but for now, money will be a lil tight. I would love the opinions of some of the experienced pilots concerning a few ships. This will likely be the ship I complete all my questing in.
I am wanting a VHF, or possibly a freighter. I want 6 gun hardpoints, I don't mind if 2 are class 9. I want at least 1 forward firing turret if at all possible.
Currently, I'm very much considering the Komodo Dragon, the King Tiger, and the Bullpup Mk. III. If you haven't noticed, I kinda have a thing for "ugly" ships. Also, I understand that acquiring a Bullpup requires asking the Blood Guard very nicely, possibly making a donation towards the continued protection of humankind, and doing whatever else they want, if they decide to let me get one at all.
These are not the only ships I will consider buying, but just the ones I have noticed so far.
Thanks for any and all opinions, guys.

Hey guys. Ok, everyone on this forum is helpful as anything. However, I know I've seen a few other starting players on server, even talked to a couple, and I've only been on a few days now. This isn't the first online game I've played, and I know approaching the senior members of any community can be intimidating, especially if you have ever played in a community with "less than helpful people". So, anyone who wants to talk about anything Crossfire related, but would prefer to talk to someone else inexperienced, by all means, post here.
Now, community senior members, you are not being asked not to post here. By all means, help us out, and keep us from doing the major stupids. I"m just hoping this might get some people who would otherwise lurk to come out, get to know each other. You have a great thing going here, and I wanna be a part of it, and help others to be as well. Newbs talk to newbs, just happens.
Remember, though, on most things, I'm gonna be as clueless ass all the rest of you starters. Please, please, feel free to seek out help from people more experienced than me. But if you wanna talk to someone else just getting his ship wet, I'm happy to hear from ya!

So, there I was, in a horrible starting ship, trying to make money doing
missions and failing miserably. At a loss, I messaged another pilot,
one who happened to be an IOC member. I won't mention names, many
people prefer to remain anonymous. He told me a few decent ways to make
some starting cash, helped me with a basic equipment upgrade, and sent
me on my way, all the better. He taught me how to fish, and gave me a
fishing rod. In my eyes, this reflects well on the Clan as a whole. I will not forget the kindness shown to me by one of your members. -
It was really getting irritating.
Corbin ran this thought through his head as he nursed a cup of bad synthetic coffee. The past year or two had escalated from mildly amusing to sheer hell. He had been chased, arrested, shot at, yelled at, left in the middle of pirate space, and even stabbed. The last one had hurt the most, both figuratively and literally. He had avoided fights most his life, kept his head down, kept his shoulders forward and his mind on the job. Shipping freight, transporting ships, even the occasional security detail. Anything for the paycheck, but nothing to get him in bad with anyone. But that didn't matter anymore, and it was all because of him. More importantly, because of how he looked.
Why the hell did that damned Edison Trent have to look so much like him?
Even now, Trent was on the newsfeed. Corbin stared at the picture of the man who had turned his life into a chaotic mess. He had to admit, the resemblance was uncanny. They even seemed to have the same taste in clothes. If someone had told him that they were twins who had been separated at birth, he would have believed it. Then, he would have punched whoever had told him.
Still, that similarity in appearance had been nothing but a curse. He had been arrested multiple times, only to be exonerated after DNA checks. He had been cornered by bounty hunters, refused for jobs, threatened by drunks. Once, a Kusari woman in a Liberty Police uniform had yelled at him for 5 solid minutes before he convinced her to look at his ID. She ended up apologizing profusely and buying him a drink, but he wasn't sure she entirely believed him even then.
He stared into his cup. This synth coffee really was terrible. It was like Trent, in a way. It bore just enough resemblance to real coffee to give anyone unfamiliar with the original a bad opinion of it. If only he could just dump Trent down a drain, watch him get pumped into space on an intercept course with a star...

Thanks guys, was exactly what I was looking for.

I dd, but E5 just came up as a corrupt instal or write error
-
That fixed it. Thanks a lot, you're awesome.

Ok, so, I sucessfully installed crossfire, and was playing mp. Some one was trying to help me out, said they checked my profile and something was wrong with it, and that I should relaunch to try to fix it. Docked, tried to relaunch, and nor I'm getting "problem starting multiplayer... [E5]". Here is everything I did to install, and what I've tried to do to fix this.
1)installed Freelancer from disk
2)installed fresh FLMM 1.31
3)Installed fresh Crosfire Client version 1.82 into flmm folder
4)activitated Crossfire mod, and did not activate any other mod
5)after the error occured the first time, I turned off "read only" on my freelancer directoryIf someone could help, that would rock.

So, the last thing I want to do is accidentally insult a server clan in my first days, and I have given the Clan System rules a good read, even though they aren't too big a deal until I hit level 40. Always pays to be polite, especially when the other guy has a bigger gun, and a lot of friends with the same gun. However, I am having trouble finding what some of the clan's initials stand for. Also, while the rules give a vague idea what each clan stands for, there is no entry I am able to locate listing if a clan is a police clan, merc clan, lepidopterist clan, etc.. If someone would be so kind as to either list these or direct me to the thread I was unable to find, I would be terribly grateful.
Thanks again guys, you rock. -
You guys are all awesome. Thanks for the warm welcome. Soon as I get my copy and ram Crossfire into my computer, you'll see me floating around space in a shiny, POS SP starting ship, trying not to get blasted outta the sky long enough to earn my wings and a few million credits. Feel free to laugh, I probably will too
