Fine by me. By the power vested in me by nobodyinparticular, I hereby decalre this topic null and void, dead and deceased! Never to be discussed again!! :D

How dyou like my new sig?

    Boy, that's impressive.

Acutally, the avatar file doesn't need to be uploaded to a website. You just have to remember to check the "use custom avatar" button when you upload it to SWAT from your pc. :-)

The sig file does have to be uploaded to a website...which is why mine is missing in action. The site I uploaded my pics to has deleted the image and I've misplaced all the screenshots I used to create the original. :-(

I posted a message in an attempt to convey the urgency of the situation to FinalDay. I don't think he wants to be held responsible for the consequences if he can't upload the new mod in a timely manner. :-)

    LMAO @ OZZY

I prefer the Deathblade. It comes well equipped (two torpedo/disruptor mounts) has good hull strength, 150 cargo capacity for loading up on escape pods after a rousing melee, and is quite maneuverable.

And it reminds me of the Heretic, which was one of the best all around fighters in Privateer 2. 8)

Privateer 2 had this feature. When you accepted a mission, you could also hire a wingman. The better his or her skills and courage, the higher the price. Some were worthless, some were an asset, and some were just entertainment. But of course Privateer 2 had no multiplayer element, so it's an apples to oranges comparison.

Since there's no similar feature in FL, I imagine it would be an enormously difficult thing to program.

But more importantly, it would decrease the need for roleplay, mulitplayer interaction, which is the raison d'etre of multiplayer.
In other words, if you can hire an NPC wingman for your cargo run, why bother finding a player in a fighter to escort you? Why bother joining a clan? Why bother building relationships with Crossfire fans in other countries?
The more you can accomplish without involving other players, the less dynamic and engaging the Crossfire community becomes. So it might be possible from a programming standpoint, but in the interest of maintaining a multiplayer and roleplaying community, it's a bad idea.

Speaking of Wing Commander, one of the weapons I'd like to have from that game (that was also used in SL) is a "dumb" high velocity, high payload missile. I haven't played WC in years now, so I forget the name of it. I think they were screamers in SL. But those would be fun for targetting cap ships or gunboats.

In addition to justification in real life, there is precedent in the fictional background of the Starlancer universe for cap ships with missile turrets.
Before Chris Roberts left EA and signed with Microsoft, he was the creative force behind the popular Wing Commander series. In WC Prophecy, all the alien cap ships had regular turrets which fired laser rounds and missile turrets. The WC cap ships were more realistic because a fighter could NOT disable a cap ship. To take down a cap ship, you had to

    1) destroy its shield generator
    2) disable enough turrets for the bombers to gain safe access to deliver torpedoes, and
    3) disable the bridge AND engines.
Although fighters could disable shield generators and turrets, only bombers could disable the bridge or engines (using torpedo's or an uber gun that only came on the heaviest bomber).

It's kind of irrelevent because WCP had no multiplayer element and Crossfire is an offshoot of FL, not WC. But plenty of the names of ships and planets come from the WC universe, so it's not totally irrelvent, as spam goes.
    Call it Spam Lite. :D
