That advice only applies once you've reached the Nagara outpost. If you start out taking the lower right anomaly all the time, you'll just fly in circles until you pass away quietly in your cockpit and are never heard from again.

Does this address the user permissions problem SOT and Raven were having?
No it wasn't a bad install. (I wish I'd know that before I uninstalled it and reinstalled everything.)
The problem SOT and Raven19 are having relates to user priviledges. If your profile in Windows XP doesn't include admin privildeges, you cannot download the files necessary to run CF 1.7 in multiplayer. If you can get your pc admin to change your user settings, it will work fine.
I think I found the problem. SOT had a saved FL game and 7.55 gb of Freelancer screen shots in his profile. I renamed the Freelancer Screenshots folder and deleted the saved game. I tested last night by playing vanillla FL from three different profiles online.
I deleted FL Mod manager, deleted CF1.7 from FLMM, deleted FLMM and reinstalled it. But now when I try to reactivate CF1.7, I'm getting errors. This is the second attempt to reactivate it. I noticed that right before the error mesasge I got a hiccup from Zonealarm about a java update. I approved it, but the interruption may have been enough to derail the activation.
The FLMM Error log says:
"SHCopyFile Failed. ('C\ProgamFiles\MicrosoftGames\Freelancer\Data\Missions\M01b\m01b_11.thn.flmmbak' to 'C\ProgamFiles|MicrosoftGames\Freelancer\Data\Missions|M01b\mo1b_11.thn')
And the mod is not activated. Should I...
a) Uninstall Crossfire (which I didn't do)
b) Just try it again with the java update approved in ZA
c) Take up needlepoint instead.

I uninstalled Freelancer and FL Mod manager, and did a clean install from the admin profile. I can access MP from my profile, but SOT cannot. Do we need to do another uninstall and sweep his profile of FL files, screenies, etc? and start over?
If you like Freelancing, but also want the group benefits of clan membership, consider the IOC. Must commit to at least 5 hours of cockpit time/wk
Must donate at least 20 Euros to SWAT portal (void if underrage)
Must provide (IOC)Centaurian_Alpha with Nicole Simpson's home address or phone number (Okay I made that one up too. He'll settle for Paris Hilton)

Highly recommended for files of this size. With the previous version, the file was so large that browsers consistently corrupted it in the dl process. Flashget makes it much easier and much less frustrating.

Well he's not taking care of DF anymore. They've uploaded a sh*tload of other mods and clan announcements now, but still no CrossFire 1.7!!!

Thanks Lance. It's not as CF oriented as I wanted. I seem to lave lost all but a dozen or so of my CrossFire screenshots. So I had to use vanilla FL stuff. When we get back online in 1.7, I can get update it with some Deathblade or Malice "footage"

Well you have a point there Corporal. I too get a little weary of the genuflecting at times...
BUT I've tried three or four other mods, and, in my opinion, Crossifre is the most imaginative, the most engrossing, the most extensive, and the most addictive.
I'm a busy management type guy who works 11 hour days so I don't have endless hours of leisure time to saor every flavor of Freelancer mod, so I have to choose my time wisely. As far as Im concerned, the search for the best Freelancer mod ends at the SWAT portal.
