Technically better way would be to write it on the actual wormhole code, meaning: activating the jumpdrive would be creating JH effect for a second at your position (for observers) and you would be sucked into hyperspace tunnel just like going thru JH and JG. The biggest problem I see would be the navigation code - how would be the choosing of jump coordinates implemented? An additional waypoint marker in map & navs? Map appearing when FTL activated? Ahh... the possibilities and speculations...

I changed my mind in the matter of taxes. I wasn't paying any taxes ever since today, because I personally HATE bullies in every possible form. I was always shot because of that and it really wasn't avoiding RP, because being shot down with cargo full of AO close to the drop off point is something very far from reasonable RP-avoiding tactic. But after reading the OPs (and few other vet pilots, who think) argumentation I agree to pay taxes when in train (with very heavy heart and after long consideration). All rats trying to tax me when in fighter can expect the same as always, I can't even imagine it other way - it's like trying to rob an armed police officer IRL.

I have absolutely nothing against very high kill fee if only there are ways to get cash in legal way without sitting in train the whole day to get 50M. I find the consequence of more planned, more carefully thought out engagements very, very good and the consequence of lack of stupid 6h battles even better.

I have to disagree with you OP. There are strategical points in the world like stations and planets, that could be barricaded, defended or attacked. Disruptors could work the same they work now, but with a longer FTL disruption time. Jump length could be limited. There are many, many ways to implement such a feature with gain to MP and not loss. In every world I have mentioned above there was a way to find each other and you can't say no.

But it's just my deeply incoherent with found Freelancer universe wish, based on my deep love to Freespace and some of the mentioned SF series.

There are 2 ways of presenting space in-game: either you keep the real-feel, the planets are humongeous, the space is so vast, that it is impossible to travel anywhere at impulse speed and the only way of traveling on longer distances are FTL/Hyperspace/Subspace engines (like in Battlestar Galactica, Freespace, Star-Trek's Warp speeds, Star-Gate) or you present the space in the reduced form like here in Freelancer - planets are way to small, traveling thru solar systems on cruise engines takes minutes and so on.

I would LOVE the whole Freelancer universe reworked to the real space dimensions with every planet scaled up and distances multiplyed many times with addition of FTL drives instead of cruise engines, but I fear that this is impossible to achieve by modding... :(

I want to add my own observation to the Bond's 2nd point:

There is only one player on the server, who is able to avoid missiles from my missiles-only build indefinetely. I spent 150 Neme/Cata/Para and scored one hit on him in battle in X. Missiles weren't tracking that good afterall, but that isn't the best explanation, because I was able to shoot down 3 PX pilots in the MEANTIME of trying to kill him. Of course one may say, that he is just that good and knows how to evade, but still, I can't understand how can the same player be so poor at shooting. He was unable to take me down for the whole time I needed to shoot 25 missile volleys and 45 torpedoes. I was firing torpedoes only at him for about 5-7 mins and he killed me only because CD spamming made me rape myself with torpedo twice. Then he moved to Tarsus and engaged 2 DC pilots. I came over and fired another 100 Para/Cata/Neme at him with almost no effect. There was much less lag in that battle and I saw many times missiles tracking him and then, when expected to hit clear (when he was almost immobile, not taking a sharp turn) loose tracking and go in opposite direction. I have never seen such feat before and I tried to document it with FRAPS. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of recording pvps and the result was a 1-min slideshow (damn).

He is also using mines in pvp, what has very funny consequences: the only time my missile barrage hit him (in face, lucky random timing, never fire missiles in such way), he killed himself with a mine.

He also told me that he is so fast because of a trick only he and OP knows.

I will ignore this player and not engage him. In fact he isn't the best gunner around (like most "trinerapists") and I will just evade / F1 him, there is no sense of fighting him while he is almost totally missileproof.

I think we are just getting to the RL situation. In RL nobody is knighty, bravy, all alone vs 5 because of the risk of ultimate loss - life. That's why modern pilots don't even use their guns - that's stupid, it's much better to launch fire&forget missiles and let them handle the enemy.

I'm sorry gunny, but this change is going to literally throw your old-school honour rules out of the window, just like modern war threw out knighty rules. I won't be surprised if we'll see a comeback of reloading or F1 escaping during the fight.

Cool thinking, but I will disappoint you. Most people will avoid fighting, because of heavy losses it may involve (if only your allies have to leave, you are f*****) and in massive battles everyone die a lot, even local speedie gonzales. SHS and other ratboats are placing bounties on "trines" like he calls them, that's very nice of him, really.

And about those hundreds of millions - BMG trading.

But overall - I am pissed, cause I'm poor and still a rookie (not very uncommon amongst newcomers). On the other hand I am very very happy about this change. I never liked those idiotic battles, which were going on only because it was so cheap to do them. I never liked annoying rats "invasions", which turned mostly into senseless 6v2 rat raping with rat not giving up for hours (despite being raped very hard, and I'm not talking about speedie gonzales). I never liked stupid heroics like going alone against small fleet.

It will end now. The time of strategy and tactic is coming. I missed them both very much.

UR Command, I want my training.

EDIT: P.S.: |PX|, are you hostile towards UR? If not, then please tell your rabid battleship pilot to stop shooting at Police Officers without bounty and, what comes with it, without reason. If you permit you pilots to open fire upon cops, then please admit it in forum.

On behalf of UR Expeditionary Forces I would like to congratulate Silver Arrows Command of great performance in both commanding the expeditionary human forces and professional, impossible to defend from, striking into the enemy positions. The firepower you were dealing SA was extraordinary and I have seen at least 3 times 3 alien capships going down in the same moment. Some of those are on screencaps I'm submitting. Great operation and great fighting there, guys. If we keep up that pressure, IC will be purged in a blink.

Beginners are fried. There are limits of taxing, but there are no limits of noobhunting, harassing, dock raping (yeah, it happens quite often).

Game system killed any idea of legal cash making. Trading? Multidocking is prohibitted. Also: ragboats like bullet spam bounties in rate higher than 5/h. Every day I have a bounty on every char I log into. Mining? Routes are long and process is time consuming. Also: trainrapists like SHS and dear speed-bullie.

Nah, I'm done for. I've wanted to be legal to the letter. I won't.

I need to check if this tracking still works on Lagg, but today I was fighting savage in jormdar and accidentally fired a sunslayer torp on a savage light fighter. The torpedo did a 180 degree turn and followed poor alien like a dog playing catch. It flew about 500m before ripping his sorry ass into space. My face was like O_O LOLWAT?

Thank you Crisis, I understand that completely and I've seen how hard it is to kill anyone with missiles in high-lag battle, like in yesterday's skirmish near Crossfire Planet. The problem here is that in low-lag battle in night in Omega-3 it was... well, too easy. They almost hadn't have any chances to evade in some moments.

@OP Roger that, will consider changing my main fighter build in near future. But ad rem: there was almost no lag for me in this engagement in O3 today in night. Like I wrote before: ~52 0 2 all the time, no jumping around noticed.

Thank you Forlon, you are right of course, useless off-topic was useless.

Shockwave - I have massive screenlag when launching all 6-pack and not doing a strafe or turn. Seeing that screenlag changed nothing in regard to missile tracking. I asked [UR]Freefalcon about missing incoming missile warning. He told me that it happens sometimes and I am convinced that |PX| pilots haven't heard that warning too. That would really explain them not taking any evasive actions, but we still have to hear it from them. Also: this does not explain missiles doing near-180-degree turns.

There was also a suggestion from /CoP\Bond that it has to do with Paralyzers fired in one pack with other missiles increasing the tracking efficiency, but as the Paralyzer and Neme/Cata have different relaunch rate, I was quite often firing them asynchronously and hitting target first with 2x Para, and then, with second launch, with Neme/Cata combo.

Nah, SHS, you are just a poor fighter. You got into the same perfectly clear shot situation 5 times in a row and got killed 5 times in a row, everything was working back then. You made the same mistake and got missiles in face. When you didn't make that mistake, I wasn't getting you easily. By the way: you killed me many, many times, so stop lying.

I am writing about my unexpectedly good tracking, not missile protection. |PX| had ridden my ass full of missiles without any problem today, it's just your inability to use them.

Take your garbage somewhere else, this is honest discussion, not "LOLOLOLO YOU CHEATER" thread.

Huor: first of all, this won't solve the problem as most of pilots use Neme&Cata, some in conjunction with Para. I've seen damage output of that combination and it's quite similar to mine, what is an obvious flaw of missile-only build. The problem is that game puts some players in privileged position when this happens and you can't ban missiles for everybody altogether.

I regret not having recorded the fight with FRAPS.

P.S. I back all my accusations of cheating ever. There are obvious bugs in the game and if someone finds a way to exploit them, he might look just the way I did today in night. Bu||et is talking about some speed glitch only he and OP knows about. Maybe it's time to inquire?

@OP I'm a rookie, this was an experimental build just to test how it works. Worked quite suicidal most of the time, but yesterday it was butchering people. How about Neme/Cata/Para?
EDIT: Also OP, why is doing something normal, not even looking as an exploit, like mounting 6 missiles a bad idea in every situation, besides obvious selfkilling when fighting 1v1 vs someone who knows how to fly? Is this weapons config generating bugs by itself?

Today at ca 2.30AM I was taking part in Omega-3 defense. Pilots that have been fighting in this engagement and also been witnesses to the described anomaly were: /CoP\Bond, Angmar_Wraith, |PX|Son_of_Angmar and |PX|KnightCCVXX. I was flying a Lagg with missile only build consisting of 2x Nemesis, 2x Cataclysm, 2x Paralyzer. During the fight everyone, including me, noticed unexpected very high hit rate of my missiles. Without exaggeration I can say, that if only target was visible on my screen while I launched missiles, the hit was almost guaranteed (90% imho) with the exception of close target taking extreme turn (and I've seen even an exception from this exception). Missiles were, quite obviously, ignoring countermeasures and taking impossible turns over 100 degrees. Another very strange feature of this situation was lack of any incoming missile warning on my side (don't know if |PX| pilots had those warnings or not). This means not only lack of AI voice or beeping, but even lack of the red incoming missile signature in the HUD. If my opponents were having the same problem, then it explains comments like "it's almost like a direct hit" and their steady, not-erratic flight patterns with obvious missile danger on their tail. I also was killed by sudden, unexpected missile hits from them. The tracking got a bit worse when more players joined the fight, but still, even with many players in battle I haven't had any missile warning and still Angmar_Wraith took missile hits from 750m like he wasn't expecting them. Impossible turns were still present.

I am submitting this situation as a bug or error, because it raised suspicion in |PX| pilots of possible cheat (missile hack was mentioned) on my behalf. It would raise the same suspicion in me, if I were in their place, because I was able to, without much sweating, take out 3 enemies with 4-5 salvos. While the damage output and ability to kill in one shot was also brought as a possible cheat, it is obviously the main feature of this rather costly build and should not be taken into such consideration. I would like to think of myself as of just good pilot, but this situation was exceptional and I have never seen such tracking before.

I am using a clear installation of freelancer and crossfire done according to the Don't Panic guide from SWAT portal. Files in installation folder haven't been modified in any way. My ping during the whole engagement was ca 52 0 2. Computer specs are Celeron E3300 @2,5Ghz with Nvidia Geforce 7600GT GPU. 8MB/s broadband internet connection.

I am seeing forward to solution of this case, because it was creating major lack of balance.
