Launcher updater says "Trying to read Update Information" then resets launcher and does it again in a loop.

I installed the latest Crossfire 2.0.1 and run the game and I get the updater error and it repeats in a loop. I had to kill the launcher on task manager. I would like some help. Thanks!

  • the launcher update should not happen at all since 2.0.1 comes with the latest launcher version already

  • I did install the latest one and I just tried launching it again and I'm still have the same problem. I also did before was uninstalled both Crossfire and Freelancer and deleted all the files that were left from the uninstall and reinstalled it. I am still getting the error as well. Is it something else that giving me this error. I did play the older version before and had no problem. I decided to play again and found out this new version. This is the first time I'm having this problem. Let me know what I can do. Thanks!

  • i dont know what you can do because this simply doesn't make sense. 2.01 already has the latest launcher and should not try to update at all.


    Maybe something is blocking the launcher to get access to the update server... but I cant really tell what that could be since i dont know the software you use.

    You could try to rename the freelancer.exe to freelancer2.exe and then run that file. Maybe it starts downloading and updating the launcher from the update server then.

  • I just change Freelancer.exe to Freelancer2.exe and it still say "Trying to read update information" But this time its staying on the screen and not going in a loop this time.

  • then something on your PC is clearly blocking the internet connection to the update server

  • I clean out my pc and reinstalled Windows 10 clean without any software. I reinstalled Freelancer and Crossfire and started up the launcher and I still get the same error. This time the OS is clean and back to factory. I checked everything that was running in the background and exit out some of the apps and it is still not working. I tried it on my Windows 7 Laptop and works fine on there. Let me know what I can do.

  • not 100% but maybe you dont even get to the point where you can open the log window (dunno)

  • I tried running the launcher and somehow it finally worked. I just did it now and it worked. I must did something to get it work this time. Well I'm glad it's working on my gaming pc now.
