manual updating is out of the question, it updates daily, so that'd be a pain. Did you completely shutdown windows firewall? If not, don't worry, just run FL and turn it back on when you're done, the chance something will actually happen is too small.
And about your C drive, I dunno exactly what the launcher does, but couldn't it be that you don't have space for cahce and temp files on your C? A friend of mine use to do it your way, but he kept 1g open, because XP can take up alot of space all of a sudden, when it's on its period or something. Don't know details, just curious.

the updater will at least do the daily updates for the dynamic market. so u would have probs to play on the server without these.. (also on first run there r a lot of one-time changes to the mod)
did u try to download any file with the IE? like any hardware driver setup or any game patch file?
please try to remove any read-only attribute from the files in ur freelancer folder, maybe its just that function (to remove R-Attribute) in the launcher not working on ur machine...

I went into the Freelancer folder, and manually turned off 'Read Only'.
Now it's patching. I dunno if it will work, but I can only assume it will.

wonderful! now one thing i would like to know: why is that "change attribute function" within the launcher not working on your machine *sigh*
one advice: just check if there are any changed files (time stamp) in ur freelancer folder by that launcher. i am not sure if that file replacement really works, if already attribute settings to any file fails...

I haven't had the chance to try and log onto the server, but I did let it patch completely, and got through the launcher, and on the screen to access the 24/7 server.
So in theory, all is good
