Crossfire crashes immediately after start (black screen / parallels)

  • So after years of abstinence I came back to crossfire. I tried to install it on a Win11 in a parallels environment (19) on an apple m1 (I know, why game on this...).
Install went fine. Went with the default options apart from Juni ;-).
    Launcher starts and updates itself.
Then I start to launch the SP campaign (also with default). I offers an update and I accept (round about 1050 Files requested as update). After that it starts, shows "Crossfire is running", the launcher music stops and for a second a black screen opens. I saw that I wasn't the first with this problem but found no solution. I saw that I wasn't the first with this problem but found no solution.

I then continued to try most of the shader options and start it. Strangely Every time I tried tot start it, a new update (smaller, 57 files) was available, but I got the same result, no matter the shader options. Also tried different combinations of windowed mode, screen resolution (and fit to resolution). Same symptoms every time.

In Event Viewer there are multiple application errors from each try. The last one (with Vanilla FL) I timed and could provide some logs probably.

The first crash was with moors.dll:

Faulting application name: Freelancer.exe, version: 1.0.1223.11, time stamp: 0x00534d69

Faulting module name: moors.dll, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4b70f164

    then in order:
    2. storyfactions.dll

    3. dynastex.dll

    4. ShieldOffline.dll

    5. jflp.dll

    6. chklootvol.dll

... it goes on until the last one was
    scroller.dll

and there are some dxdiag (attached) logs referenced.

So maybe even though Parallels on an ARM CPU with an ARM Windows that emulates x86 ... maybe someone could help me. I would really love to dive into crossfire. Started with the HD mod (which worked) and while playing the 8th mission ... yeah well.
Thanks anyway for creating such a great mod and continuing to develop it!

Changed the title of the thread from “Crossfire crashes immediately after start (black screen and parallels” to “Crossfire crashes immediately after start (black screen / parallels)”.
  • try to delete all savegames

if that does not work select a different shader on the launcher

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • I tried all the shader options and I did not have any save games (clean install). Still no luck. Do I need to run it in compatibility mode on Win11 or is there something else I could do?

  • no, no compatibility needed on win11

I can only think of 3 reasons why it would crash at this specific point

    1. incompatible savegames

    2. a shader option which does not fit your hardware

    3. something is wrong with the installation (probably missing files)
