  • To all the computer experts here,
I was trawling through my system trying to find a reason for a massive lockup today.
This was logged on my software firewall.

Hope you can make sense of it.
It appears to be a huge surge of attempts to connect out and to me it looks like a trojan attack.
As you can see came straight out of freelancer . exe
At this stage I had downloaded client 1.6 and install into FLMM, Activated the mod and I think the lockup occurred while the program was connecting to the global freelancer server list. Locked up good enough to need the plug pulled. Rebooted cleanly and no further problems. I have loaded FL and run in SP and connected in MP and created a char on the 1.6 server.
    Any Thoughts ?

  • works fine for me,it may have been fl trying to connect to global server

  • Thats freelancer asking to the servers on the global server list for stats and calculating ping time for each one, so you can see it.

  • Thanks for the input. Ill modify settings to let it ping

  • I use the same firewall. ZoneAlarm is very good, but each time I install a new version of Freelancer or Crossfire, I have to update the program files.
    1) Open ZoneAlarm by double clicking on the icon in your start tray
    2) Click on the Program Control tab.
    3) Scroll down the list of installed programs to Freelancer.exe and change all of your settings to "allow". You'll probably find it's set to ""Block" or "ask".

If it's set to "ask", the firewall will be asking you if it's okay to allow Feelancer to access the internet or act as a server while Freelancer is trying to do just that. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to check the correct setting and give it permission while Freelancer is trying to connect. So you have to set the Program Controls before you try to log on.

  • I don't like ZoneAlarm. I've used once to avoid EA games from crashing my pirated copy of most wanted via the internet, i didn't worked, i had to rename the exe file, and no MP races :(

You can do precisely what Titan_addict said, or you can forward the UDP port of freelancer on windows firewall, and deactivate ZoneAlarm whenever you play FL. Now, i've forgot what port FL uses, but i'm shure that someone reading this topic knows :D

  • So what kind of information is conveyed between my PC and the server? My Norton AntiVirus blocks inbound files from the internet becuase it's supposed to be paranoid (so I don't have to :D ). I know you've already said that it's the global server, but why would there be information being stored on my PC from it? Thus far I've blocked these transfers without any noticable consequence...is there any reason that I should allow these unheralded downloads to proceed?
