Is it alight if I use Crossfire textures for a pack?

  • Hey there.

So I'm playing on the Freelancer Discovery server. As anyone who has played there knows, the game looks exactly like it did in 2003. And if one wants to make his game HD, he has to look far and wide for the addons, scattered all over MODDB and the starport.
For that reason I'm putting together a pack of freelancer graphics modification, that can be used on Discovery and possibly other mods. I got Hunor's HD starspheres, HD base and asteroid textures, as well as Fagu's Retextures for 88flak. I want to make an easy and accessible graphics addon / catalog for not only Discovery member, but everyone really.

My question is, am I allowed to upload some Crossfire 2.0 files, such as starspheres, textures, sounds, and disturbed them as a graphics pack?
I will not make any profit out of this, and I will not claim the files are mine. Creators will be credited, of course.

  • No its not ok.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • I didnt meant to be harsh yesterday. I just was in a hurry.
However the answer is still "no".

We have spent years to develop this mod in order to offer something unique to the players of this community.
To allow the use of our graphics to a different mod (a mod which generally consumes players which never tried other mods before) is not good for this community and also not healthy for Freelancer as a whole.
During the past years there have been at least 3 known attempts from discovery players/modders to simply copy our graphics and re-release them either in combination with specific Discovery version or as addons to Discovery. You have been the first one who bothered to ask for permission. I appreciate that.

However, Crossfire is known for its Story, its graphics and its open roleplay. That are key features of this mod... but not the features of another mod and I believe this should stay this way.

  • I understand.

I haven't though about in this way. And I believe you are right: Crossfire assets should stay within Crossfire. Please forgive my ignorance.
Thank you for answer and clarification.
