since this was a question to me recently:
QuoteIf a player has 50 power in this subsystem it will allow each of your ships energy weapons to cause 100% of their natural DPS. Every additional point of power applied to this subsystem will increase overall DPS by 2% per weapon. As an example, running 100 weapons power will yield a 100% bonus to weapon DPS giving an overall amount of 200% of the energy weapons base damage. However, every point under 50 in this system will lower overall DPS of each energy weapon by 2%. This means that if a player uses 25 power in the weapons subsystem then every energy weapon on the ship will only cause 50% of their original DPS.
The weapons subsystem power levels are capped at 125 power. Any extra power to this subsystem will not increase damage, but it does act as a power loss buffer.
means like i already explained on the server.... you can in theory have more power than 125 but its just a buffer for weapons (which consume 10 weapon power each)
assuming you have a cruiser and 8 beams each time you fire them you would consume 70 weapon power (1 weapon is free).
putting aside that its not the worst idea to have 2 weapons which dont consume weapon enegery (e.g. experimental romulan beam + cutting beam)... you still would lose 50 weapon power if you fire them all.
if you use special consoles like a leech or power boosts like the red matter capacitors or weapon bats you could boost your weapon power higher than 125 and your weapons would first consume the energy thats above the 125 limit
if done right you could use 0 energy weapons + a leach and this way never see your weapon power drop even if you have all weapons firing
the higher your weapon power the higher your damage... see the quote above.
btw. here is a weapon power calculator that you could use to improve your setting
