  • Everyone knows that Wing Commander put the Creative Labs Sound Blaster on the map with its dazzling sound effects, musical score and speech. It was not uncommon at all in 1991 to invite friends over just to show them the talking Kilrathi in the introduction to Wing Commander 2. WC1&2 sold quite a few Sound Blasters, which became the audio gold standard in the 1990s.

  • Yes! I remember those days!
I almost bought a new SoundBlaster card until I read the specs. Did you know that back then there was a better choice? Yes, it was Media Vision's Pro Audio Spectrum card which had true 16bit sound unlike SoundBlaster's 8bit. It also had a true SCSI2 interface in which the SoundBlaster did not. I still have the Pro Audio Spectrum and it still works.

    Anyway have fun!
