Using two PCs for play CF

  • There were many ppl in the server today when that "aaaaa" ddddddddddddd guy got banned. He was using 2 logins, creating a char and transfering the starting 150k credits to his main guy. There are probably hundreds of ways to exploit multiple logins. You want the rules to contain every known and potential way of exploiting the game? The rules would be the size of an encyclopedia. Thus, they have one rule which states that if you're doing something that gives you an advantage over others, it's exploitive. And yes, logging in with 2 chars gives you an advantage over someone who can only log in with one. Even if it's just to save some time while exploring. That guy got banned today and yet, the rules do not specifically state that you can't log in on a second character and transfer the starting credits over. But, we can all agree that it's a despicable thing to do.

Can a moderator please close this thread. I believe the point has been made.

That's why 2 logins should be mentioned in the rules. Every time someone finds a way to exploit something that can be possibly cheating, we need to add it in the rule book. The fact that this happened from 1.7 days and it isn't even mentioned until 1.9 should be evidence on why we need to add it to the rule book.

    Arrrrrrrrrrrr Maty!

  • I, myself, would prefer one page of rules that cover everything, instead of 20 pages of rules that specify every little thing that could possibly happen.

I, too, have been around since 1.7 and saw many folks using multiple logins....but only to trade equipment/cargo. Then they log out of one. This week was the very first time, in my 3 years here, that I saw someone actually *playing* multiple characters. That tells me that the vast majority of players understand the *spirit* of the rules and not just as a collection of specific do's and don'ts.

Added: True story of how I came to be here...

Four years ago, I moved back to the city from the country [and 56k dialup] and rediscovered Freelancer. After a bit of research, it came down to 2 mods...Discovery and Crossfire. My first stop was the Discovery forum and found their list of rules. If anyone remember back then, the Discovery rules were pages and pages and pages of stuff [somewhere near 250 entries, each with part A, B, C etc]. You can do this unless under these circumstances...you can't do that unless your a member of Faction such and such blah blah blah. I got about half way down the rules when I thought 2 things:
    1) They have a serious problem with cheaters/exploiters/rule breakers.
    2) I need to get a lawyer to explain this to me.

Then I went to the Crossfire rules page. One page. Short and sweet. No cheating/exploiting. No being an asshole. No activities which may cause undue stress on the server and other players. I downloaded and installed and been here ever since. This I could understand. And my instincts were right. I have always preferred playing on game servers with 20, 30 or 40 good players than a server with 200 jerkwads. You guys are great players [tho sometimes a bit over zealous or misguided] and I can't imagine playing on any other server.

50Pack, I can completely understand your point of view and hopefully you can understand mine:

I don't want to see Crossfire become another Discovery.
