  • Hey all!

Im trying to get Crossfire working for days... Without positive results so far.
And im no noob with zero pc skills. I have read all kinds of forums tried all they suggested.

    Win 7 Ultimate
    P4 3.4
    4Gb DDR2
    Geforce 9400GT

    My last desperate effort;

    • Unload Mod.
    • Restore Backups.
    • Deinstall mod manager.
    • Deinstall Freelancer.
    • Delete all folders to Freelancer and mod Manager. As well program folders as save folder.
    • Reboot.
    • Install Mod Manager v1.31 , under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and Administrator. (D:\Games\Freelancer Mod Manager\ folder)
    • Reboot.
    • Install Crossfire v1.9 - 1.82Gb , under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and Administrator. (D:\Games\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\Crossfire\) (Downloaded from the official link)
    • Reboot.
    • Install Freelancer v1.0 , under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and Administrator. (D:\Games\Freelancer\)
    • Reboot.
    • Reboot into save mode.
    • Remove write protection from all files in D:\Games\Freelancer\
    • Reboot.
    • Activate Mod in Mod Manager under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and as a Administrator.
    • Reboot.
    • Run Freelancer under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and as a Administrator.

All my attempts to install resulted in the following results:

    • Game starts with normal menu but Crossfire text. (dont know if menu should change)
    • Game starts with small unreadable text thats on the top of each button.
    • Game starts normal Freelancer game.

    • All the time when i want to see multiplayer servers there are none. Even with no firewall.
    • There is no options menu when i activate the mod in manager. Never ever...
    • There is no crossfire update going on when starting. Never seen it.

And despite off all this madness i still want to give it a try. So i hope someone can help me with this.
Because i dont know why this doesnt work...

This works for me,install on windows 7
1.Deactivate and uninstall Crossfire which should uninstall mod manager as well.(use Revo uninstaller Free) advanced mode.
    2. Uninstall Freelancer.
    3 Reboot,install Freelancer,reboot if it asks.
    4. Install Mod Manager 1.31.
    5. Install Crossfire.
    6. Activate Crossfire in Mod Manager.
    7. Start game from desktop shortcut or from Mod Manager.
    Hope this helps

  • When after a clean reinstall, of course it works, else he wouldn't try mods for it.

I found the problem here (if it's how it looks like):

    Install Crossfire v1.9 - 1.82Gb , under WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and Administrator. (D:\Games\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\Crossfire\)

If you are manually choosing that folder or creating a new \Crossfire\ folder yourself in the unpacker, it won't work properly(as it's sending the mod in another place). You have to leave the adress as it is by default in the installer, which is pointing at the FLMM executable's folder(so don't change anything when unpacking). The unpacker will add few things in the "D:\Games\Freelancer Mod Manager\" like readme, credits with the "CF Uninstaller", and add the mod in "mods\Crossfire1.9" the rest of the data. When you start FLMM (which should be closed while unpacking CF, and at the end of the process FLMM should start alone), you will see the mod as "Crossfire 1.9 Client Version". Then you will see SWAT OP-R8R's name and a text at your left, which is the readme of the mod (nice story there btw), and then you can choose the options.

If you don't arrive to choose from a large table of options BEFORE Crossfire starts activating in the FLMM, stop the process fast by cancelling it (so you can retry without reinstalling the whole set, you can keep FLMM and FL) and try again, it won't work.

  • Ofcourse FL is working great normal.
And in previous installs i did play Discovery mod, so all is fine.

I indeed selected the mod folder manually, i will try it again, but now let Crossfire install into D:\Games\Freelancer Mod Manager\.
Btw; If you select the mod folder, the installer automaticly creates a Crossfire folder in it. Thats why i thought it needed to be in mod folder.

It would be great if installer in feature tells you to NOT select a different folder then (HD):\... ...\Freelancer Mod Manager\

Will post after reinstalling if this was helpfull.

Yes, but if you look inside that folder there's a "mods" folder and deeper inside a "Crossfire1.9" folder. The FLMM already loses the options script and just put stuff over the FL, but soemthing like, all options at once.

  • TY Michael!

The folder was my problem. Stupid thing is that i already did this kind of install before. Then i had problems bec of read only. But never reinstalled it this way again with read only disabled. :D

  • Glad to hear it !
That happens pretty often when there're a lot of things to watch over.

Now you can peacefully enjoy the game, hmm, or not so peacefully when you meet the aliens part ;)
