i assume you didnt use a clean isntallation of the mod and therefor some of the singleplayer files were not installed correctly (at least that was the reason the last 4 times that ive read about such problems)
-

During activation, you picked OpenSP. That starts Crossfire without the story and starts you there. At least, that's how OpenSP started for me.

thanks for the answers guys. i'll try reinstall and try then.

I've been having a similar problem. I've tried re-installing Freelancer from scratch, and even re-downloading the Crossfire mod and re-installing it before trying again. I still end up stuck in the Freeport 7 system with no way out.

until i have found the reason for the problem here is a small fix
rename the m13opensp.ini to m13.ini
-
Thanks. I'll give that a try.

I tried the solution and it worked. However, when the mod is started up, it automatically downloads updates, including one that overwrites "m13.ini". This means that the only way to keep open SP working normally is to overwrite "m13.ini" with "openspm13.ini", then start the game with internet connections disabled.
I think you might need to take a look at the automatic update system a little more closely. Not being a modder myself, I wouldn't really know for sure, but I think you might find the problem there.

no, that file has to be overwritten as it gets patched for normal singleplayer
that fixes some bugs with the storyline
and this patch might explain why the openSP has problems atm
