I thought the same thing the first time I saw the Sentinel cap ships Spiky when I was first creating the SAL Xeno Guide. 
The Sentinels must have some utter fascination with Sol lifeforms, namely the dolphin, to the point it influenced their ship designers!
Almost all Sentinel ships look like that in some way. 
Oh yes, aleks182, you can find Sentinels in Pyrddra, Celldra and Venn in the Inner Core sector.(refer to the Xeno Guide)
Once I get off my rear from my self-imposed "vacation", I'll schedule a Inner Core expedition against some Seteks/Sentinels and you can see them up close and personal.
OH YES, I'm currently updating the Xeno Guide, I'm hoping to get out version 1.1 sometime this week, so stay tuned!
