Monolith Promise to Bring FEAR

  • Monolith, a game's developer who seems to enjoy acronyms and four letter words as titles, has released some further details on its upcoming game F.E.A.R (First Encounter Assault and Recon). So after N.O.L.F (No One Lives Forever), N.O.L.F. 2, AvP 2 and TRON 2.0, Monolith has changed its style working on a sinister and moody game.

As we mentioned on the build-up to E3, F.E.A.R. is planned as an atmospheric FPS described by its makers as The Matrix meets the Lord of the Rings. If you are not sure what that means don't be disheartened, you're not the only one. In fact, the developers explain that it will contain some exciting close-quarters combat and will have the necessary slow motion effect which, if the first footage of the game is anything to go by, will be used to good effect and not as a meaningless, eye-candy extra.

In order to achieve the necessary level of creepiness Monolith will use a brand new engine for F.E.A.R. which will utilize tons of DX 9 features and will produce the required level of shadows and detail.

The story begins as an unidentified paramilitary force infiltrates a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound. The government responds by sending in Special Forces, but loses contact as an eerie signal interrupts radio communications. When the interference subsides moments later, the team has been literally torn apart. As part of a classified strike team created to deal with threats no one else can handle, your mission is simple: Eliminate the intruders at any cost. Determine the origin of the signal. And contain this crisis before it spirals out of control.

F.E.A.R. is on schedule for a 2005 release for the PC.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!
