Q:.Does Crossfire have a virus?
A:No it is just suspicious to AV's that a file would be encrypted. Rest assured it is not a virus.

best way to avoid this is to turn of heuristic protection then exclude the file u r downloading the file into from all kinds of scans. then b4 u install it.. just exclude the mods folder in freelancer mod manager(C:/Program Files/Freelancer mod manager/mods)from all kinds of scans...this should work. it did for me and i use norton2010
McAfee virus protection will not work with CF 1.8 at present. It will claim to find an "Artemis Trojan" and remove it causing Free Lancer not to load at all. My solution was to ditch McAfee altogether and run Microsoft Security Essentials which causes no problem with "false positives" McAfee is aware they've got issues but offers NO WAY TO FIX THIS other than to send them the rogram and wait for 4-6 weeks.........
Pity
in the meantime try Avast 5 home edition, he has "game silent mode" and many new things. In short, it's worth try.
i use Avira and it also alerts 3-4 viruses in Cf1.8
how to solve the problem ? TURN OFF annoying Avira Guard
I've been using windows security essential and I haven't had any problems with it.

antivir konfig > aktivate expert modus >
go to scanner + search + exceptions
and guard + search + exceptions
type except in scanner and guard
C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer
and C:/Program Files/Freelancer Mod Manager
