Freelancer modding here at SWAT

  • The recent incidents with all the hacking and instabilities of certain communities showed us how fragile the Freelancer community is and how fast knowledge can get lost once a FL site has to stop its services because of such attacks.

Of course it could have been worse. The TSP data could have been transfered directly to RF (which is the most untrustworthy FL site on the net) and all the userdata, the private messages, the public posts and the private posts of the restricted areas (maybe even our passwords) would have been fallen into the hands of RF. That clearly is a data privacy violation not to mention that TSP would have given up their independence and would have layed their fate into the hands of liars and hackers.

However it looks now that Starport will continue their services but its still worrying that this is already the 2nd incident of instability on that site.

What does that mean for us and probably also our friends at FLC and STN.
OK - I can only speak for SWAT.
We offer modding information here but we never have been the most popular place for modders as most of the specialized modding took only place for the Crossfire mod or for other SWAT related mods.
There is the absolute need to open our sources and wide out our services for the entire FL modding community. The modding knowledge is here (we probably know even more than what can be found on other places). But we have to present it in a different way.

The FL community needs alternatives for the case that communities such as TSP get instable again and vanish.

One thing that will happen for sure... CF discussions will get better seperated from other FL discussions... to realize that is my first task now. We will offer more free services aswell.
It doesnt help if the modders ask their questions via pm or on the messengers just like it used to happen in the past... the FL community would benefit more from open discussions.

After what has happened (partly even before all that crap happened) several modders came to me with the wish to use SWAT more frequently as a modding source.
SWAT is supposed to serve its community... so here is my direct question to the modders.

What do you feel that requires changes, what needs to be added, what needs updates... which changes have to be done to fullfill the needs of you modders? This is your chance to design a FL modding community... probably the best chance that modders can even get...

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • the FL community can not rely on a centralized modding scene... we have just seen what happens
