How would smuggling work on this server?

  • I was thinking of joining and becoming a smuggler, but I had a couple of questions first.

It seems there are special rules for smugglers, what with needing liscenes and such. Exactly how would this work? If I started a smuggling ring could they also dabble in piracy, or is it more that I'd be at the mercy of every pirate and cop and I see and have to pay protection money to both?

Are there Outcasts on this server? I was thinking of stealing the plot from an old fanfic I wrote and it basicly involves being an Outcast Cardamin smuggler.

  • Hello mate
well, to smuggle you need a smugglers licence. But as a freelancer you can have chars with any licence you want: smuggler, pirate, cop, merc.

If you have a smuggler's licence you can't play a pirate and tax other people. And yes, you likely will have to pay taxes to the pirates and fines to the cops, (however, most cops won't fine you but just blow you up if they find you with illegal goods)

One idea to have your butt covered is to hire mercenaries. Another idea is to get on good terms with pirates. Personally i'm always willing to help a smuggler against cops.
Heck, us good folks need to stick together against the forces of suppression and rotten donuts.

  • Smuggling, also known as trafficking, is the clandestine transportation of goods or persons past a point where prohibited, such as out of a building, into a prison, or across an international border, in violation of the law or other rules.

There are various motivations to smuggle, most but not all of which are financial. These include the participation in illegal trade, such as drugs, illegal immigration or emigration, tax evasion, providing contraband to a prison inmate, or the theft of the items being smuggled. Examples of non-financial motivations include bringing banned items past a security checkpoint (such as airline security) or the removal of classified documents from a government or corporate office.

    That should explain it.

Basically trade illegal stuff & try not to get caught. (Which is pretty easy, if Cops & Pie Rats don`t do special raids). If you do get caught: run as fast as ya can & if possible - use others as shield, while you can sneak away with the goods. One thing that`ll come in handy - a fully explored universe map. I know the FL-CF map up to 95% & it has helped me alot to escape from others who don`t know it so well. A Smugglers life is based on running, hiding & do anything possible to get the merchandise from point A to point B while sneaking past point F. As a smuggler you can truly trust only yourself. Everyone else is a tool for your convenience.

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

  • When I say "Pirate" I mean more blowing stuff up and stealing other peoples **** honestly. Not taxing. The reason is in the story these smugglers are actually rather violent. In case it's not obvious this would be something of a clan, in the columbian cartel model. While mechanicly their thing would be delivering BMG from point A to B, RPingly they'd be an ultra violent splinter group of outcasts (though the violence itself would also be in story mostly. The violence would be more on the ground then in space).

Which brings me back to another question, are the outcasts still around in CF? Still the only actual source of Cadamine and secretly controling the drug trade in Sirius?

  • Yep, they are. But to be blunt: Nobody cares too much about Cardamine on CF. I've tried to sell some a few times but nobody bothered.

btw, i like the idea of an ultra violent splinter group. Ultra violent violence is almost always a very good solution to any problem 8)

  • looking forward to see this happen :)

  • Or better - hire mercs & tell that you`re gonna pay them, let them do your work, but then show `em ''the finger''.

However, if your clan has declared a Trade Monopoly, your clan can also charge a "royalty" or "licensing fee" to trade in your monopoly goods; if the non-clan smuggler refuses, then the monopoly clan can shoot to kill.

Even clans with trade monopolies must accept the risks of trading in "controlled" (i.e. contraband) merchandise, so police are still within their RP to prosecute monopolists. But if a monopolist clan is worth their sea salt, they will make arrangements with police to overlook their activities. Both pirate and police clans have means available to them to blur the edges of their respective roles... :D
