  • I have come back to freelancer after many many years (when it first came out). I played IONCross for a long time as Twista and then took a looong break.

I am now wanting to play again BUT....

When I try to join the server, it tells me it is offline or I have internet problems. I am quite sure it's not the latter - what do I do?

Running fresh install of Freelancer/fresh install of mod (patched), windows vista 64bit / and a decent rig.

    -Twista

PS would be super handy to have a sticky link for new players or a technical issues thread.

    My Rig: Quad 3.0Ghz / 4GB RAM(1300Mhz) / Twin 260GTX SLI / Water cooled (18'C idle, 27'C max load), 1TB HDDs (RAID1) - system noise is less than 20 Decibels (barely audible).

  • Argos kindly offered a direction toward vista issues. unfortunately I did a search on Vista issues in this forum to find 3 threads relating. 2 of them mine and a 3rd that said vista was crap ( /agree with)... but nothing helpful to solve this issue.

could someone post a link as I must be doing something drastly wrong here.

  • IV. Can't connect to any Server (Vista)
Norton, mcafee securityCenter or Kaspersky aren't allowed to be on your PC, deactivating them don't do it!, if you have Avast! you have to deinstall the NetworkShield.
You should eventual turn off IPv6 and give a static LAN IP Addresse in the IPv4.

  • I have avg which I quit before startingand have tried running CF with admin/compatabilty mode on, to no avail.

what about this static IP, etc?

  • I have turned off windows software firewall, but I do have hardware firewall (through router). Will I need to forward any ports? Also, I am not sure how to turn off windows defender (inbuilt av), suggestions please?

  • I'm guessing no one can help. I did eventually find some stuff on turning off IPv6 and antivirus software in the discovery forums... still none the wiser. Maybe I will see if Discovery members have any advice??

  • I have vista 64 also .... this is what i did to get it to work.... Install FL ... then FLMM ... the CF 1.7 and activate.... then install CF1.7A patch you may have to install this twice.... the 1st time you start CF Run as Administrator.... I had to totally remove my AV program because of some confliction between AV programs and Vista.... Now all should work fine ... good luck.

  • I didnt mean to be rude, and yes I was chomping at the bit to play - sorry about the lack of patience. I did head over to Dicovery in the end and found they had a thread on exactly the steps to make their mod work - worked a charm for CF too ^^

    Thanks for the help though.
